This English teaching position is located at the Malagasy Lutheran Church: Graduate School of Theology (SALT) in Ivory Avaratra, Fianarantsoa. The Malagasy Lutheran Church is the ninth largest Lutheran church in the world, with four million members in twenty-five synods. At the heart of the Malagasy Lutheran Church is a passion for evangelism and service to others. SALT, the Lutheran Graduate School of Theology, is the highest theological faculty in the Malagasy Lutheran Church. Students who have graduated from one of six regional theological seminaries in the church come to SALT to continue their studies for a University Bachelors and/or Masters Degree. SALT has grown in their ability to educate students in recent years by introducing a Masters level professional and modular online course.

- To teach English to students at Licence (University Bachelors) and Masters Programs at SALT. Students vary in English level from beginner to conversational. Many students have studied English but do not have opportunity to speak English and need support in learning how to write and speak about theology in English.
- English classes are a part of the curriculum for Licence / Bachelors students in the first two years of study. An English Teacher will teach two different English courses each week, one for first year students and one for second year students. Classes meet for two hours each week. English curriculum is provided by SALT, but can be adapted as necessary.
- Assign students weekly homework and exercises.
- Write, administer, and correct a final exam for each course
- Teach a weekly two-hour English class to SALT Professors, staff, and administrators. Like the students, the staff of SALT varies in English ability, but it is increasingly necessary for people working in a higher-level educational setting to speak English.
- Create an on-campus English club for students to practice speaking English
- Assist in correcting student thesis written in English
- Assist with understanding theological research materials and reading materials written in English.
- Study Malagasy language in order to facilitate communication in the classroom and form relationships with students and staff of SALT
- Support for the Faculty of Theology (SALT) to improve their preaching and evangelism.
Experience and Skills:
- Bachelors in English Education preferred. Teaching English as a Foreign Language skills or certification helpful.
- Ability and openness to teach and communicate with students whose first (or second) language is not English.
- French or Malagasy language helpful, but not necessary.
- Christian faith and a commitment to the mission of the church
- Openness to various expressions of Christian faith and respect for people of other faiths
- Respect for beliefs, values and customs of church and culture where assigned
- Well-developed inter-personal skills demonstrating understanding and compassion

- This position is supported under the Global Mission Two-year (GM2) agreement terms and conditions. Basic provisions include: international transportation, transportation related to work assignment, pensions and major medical coverage, housing, utilities and cash salary which is adjusted according to the goods and services differential for Madagascar.
