Description
The Packaging Engineer will design, develop, and optimize packaging solutions to support the company's products, ensuring functionality, cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role collaborates across teams to enhance packaging processes, improve product protection, and ensure customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Packaging Design & Development
- Develop innovative packaging solutions that align with product specifications, production capabilities, and customer requirements.
- Conduct packaging tests to ensure product protection during transit, storage, and handling.
- Evaluate and source materials, ensuring cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
- Process Optimization
- Collaborate with production and supply chain teams in Irving, Texas, and other locations to streamline packaging processes, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
- Conduct root cause analyses for packaging defects and implement corrective actions.
- Identify and implement opportunities for automation or process improvements.
- Sustainability & Compliance
- Ensure all packaging complies with industry regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, or local regulations).
- Recommend and integrate sustainable materials and processes to reduce environmental impact.
- Vendor & Supplier Collaboration
- Evaluate and work with packaging vendors and suppliers in the Texas region and beyond to source materials and prototypes.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure quality and timely delivery of materials.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with R&D, marketing, and operations teams to ensure packaging aligns with brand identity and market requirements.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and quality teams regarding packaging issues.
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to packaging costs, waste reduction, and productivity improvements.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on packaging developments and outcomes.
Requirements
Qualifications Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in packaging design, development, or engineering (preferably in manufacturing, food, or CPG industries).
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in packaging design software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks).
- Knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and equipment.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and testing procedures (ISTA, ASTM).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with sustainable packaging initiatives.
- Knowledge of automation in packaging lines.
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a production environment and lift materials up to 25-50 lbs.
- Travel up to 30% to supplier or manufacturing sites, primarily within the Texas region.
Salary : $100,000 - $115,000
