At Evans/Palmex, the Senior Manager of Food Safety will report to the Senior Director, Quality & Regulatory Compliance. This team member will oversee all aspects of quality assurance and food safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and product quality standards are met. This role will ensure that food safety and quality standards are met and maintained by implementing, enforcing customer, regulatory, and the company processes, policies, regulations, and procedures. In addition, this role is accountable for execution of audits and ensuring efficient and smooth operations within the R&D and Innovation Teams.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Provide technical support for the R&D, Innovation, and Product Development Teams through close working relationship and partnering with Corporate VP of R&D, Technical Services, Supply Chain, and Marketing.
- Drive continuous improvement in the area of Food Safety by setting goals and identifying key performance indicators in this area of the business. Improve Food Safety processes by developing, implementing, and enforcing policies consistency company-wide while ensuring strict compliance with Customers’ requirements and Regulatory Agencies.
- Provide strategic leadership, direction, and guidance on Food Safety, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Compliance, Sustainability programs and systems.
- Create and enforce robust programs for Food Safety to ensure compliance with regulations and advancement of product safety for our customers.
- Manage the investigation and reporting of Quality, Food Safety issues and implementation of audit control processes. Recognize trends and opportunities for improvement/corrective action, through proper analysis.
- Coordinate and execute internal, external, customer, supplier, subcontractor, and regulatory audits as directed or required.
- Ensure proper documents have been reviewed and are file to support product claims and support plant’s GFSI audit requirements.
- Establish and maintain proactive quality, safety, and sanitation standards, processes, and documentation to meet standards required for SQF, OSHA, FDA, EPA, USDA, customers, and other regulatory agencies.
- Resolve problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, making recommendations, and taking corrective and preventive action.
- Coordinate and execute root cause investigation of detected risks or failures, complaints, and monitor CAPA implementation.
- Determine, document, and approve site-specific or one-time occurrences such as protocols (reworks, validations, etc.), deviations (planned or unplanned), waivers, or releases for materials and products as required.
- Assess product specifications, testing to ensure they are in the acceptable range for customer requirements.
- Oversees implementation of new and revised package labels.
- Complies with safety and GMP requirements.
Requirements
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, major in a Science field (i.e. Food, Chemistry, Biology)
- At least five years related experience in Food Safety, Regulatory Compliance, and Quality Assurance in a food manufacturing facility; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in supervision and experience in internal and external auditing, change control procedures, cGMP, and regulatory compliance and enforcement is required.
- Proven track record of problem-solving.
- Must have excellent time management, attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills, listening, decision-making, and organization skills required.
- Excellent computer skills required, including Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- Working knowledge of FDA CFR Title 21 (101) Food Labeling, FSMA, Federal and State Food Regulations with the ability to train others in their understanding of the regulations.
- Bilingual, English and Spanish.
- Multi-plant setting, ability to travel 10 – 20% of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over slippery surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as samples and record boxes.
- This position requires frequent pulling, carrying, and lifting up to 50lbs.

Salary : $125,000 - $140,000
