Medical Billing and Coder is responsible for managing the administrative responsibilities of billing insurance and processing payments for clients. In addition, they communicate with patients about outstanding balances, collecting on behalf of their employer or provider institution as necessary to ensure the patient’s procedures are paid for by their insurance company. They may also need to assist in , Medical Receptionists play a key role in representing a practice and must have professional behavior and appearance. A Medical Receptionist provides appropriate feedback to the medical team, follow-up information to the patients and correctly input data as required. Medical receptionist performs a number of duties, including greeting and scheduling patients, calling patients to remind them of appointments, handling billing, answering and routing calls, making transactions, keeping paperwork organized and other basic administrative duties.

Key position Responsibilities:

  • Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness and resolve any discrepancies
  • Submit claims to insurance companies, ensuring each claim is accurate and complete for prompt payment
  • Follow up on unpaid claims and disputed claims
  • Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary
  • Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances
  • Review accounts for insurance of patient follow-up
  • Respond to inquiries from insurance companies, patients and providers
  • Perform various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers
  • Process patient statements, answer patient inquiries on account status and charges, and resolve issues as necessary
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to health insurance portability and accountability act standards
  • Keep informed of changes in billing regulations and procedures for all third party payers
  • Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them, in person or on telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Answering phones and checking voicemail
  • Optimizing provider scheduled and patient satisfaction with efficiently scheduling appointments.
  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by verifying patients' insurance benefits and eligibility prior to the appointment; reminding patients of their appointments; registering and checking in patients in a timely manner; preparing necessary documents for the visit and checking out patients.
  • Notifying providers/CMAs of patient arrivals, late arrivals; rescheduling patients when necessary.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients anxieties and answering patients questions.
  • Maintaining a clean and presentable front office and reception area.
  • Maintains accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating patient demographics and insurance information in the electronic health records system.
  • Maintains accurate financial records by updating patient financial information; recording and collecting patient charges and balances; providing patients with receipts for payments.
  • Performs all other duties as trained and requested by provider and/or management.
  • Helps with collections and self-pay report.
  • Submitting medical records.
  • Working referrals and getting the new patients added to the schedule.
  • Will also help with other various billing duties such as denials and dropping claims at end of day.
  • Takes the mail down and retrieves the mail.
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information per HIPAA regulations.
  • Understands and complies with OSHA and any other regulatory requirements

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of medical billing and front desk/ receptionist required
  • Professional behavior and appearance.
  • Communication skills to converse clearly over the phone and in person.
  • Experience answering phones, filing paperwork or doing other related tasks.
  • Knowledge of insurance, copays, deductibles, coinsurances, managed care policies and procedures and is familiar with obtaining information from health plans.
  • Technological skills, such as using word processing, Excel and EHR systems.
  • Attention to detail and organization skills is a must.
  • Ability to use good judgment and see appropriate resources in difficult or stressful situations.
  • Can handle a fast-paced environment.
  • Can adjust to new environments easily and willing to learn new skills
  • Can manage individual responsibilities with little or no direction.

Hourly wage: Based off experience

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

  • Monday to Friday
