Position Description
• To fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the OR Technician and Central Supply technician. The surgical technician must have a thorough understanding of each surgical and scope procedure and possess a knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Must be familiar with the policy and procedure regarding cleaning, autoclaving, wrapping of packs, spore testing and recall system. Must have a clear understanding and practice of aseptic technique.
Essential Position Responsibilities
• The essential position responsibilities are the basis for the 90 day and annual evaluation.

1. Demonstrates support for the hospital mission/vision and commitment to our patients.

8. Demonstrates competency and preparatory work for each surgery case
9. Is knowledgeable about gowning, gloving, according to established policy and procedure.
10. Provide patient support as needed
11. Performs surgical tech duties during surgery competently
12. Performs post surgical care of equipment and instruments and stock
13. Demonstrates competency in recognition and intervention in an emergency situation
14. Demonstrates care appropriate to patient age (pediatric, adolescent, etc)
15. Adheres to legal implications of patient care
16. Knowledgeable of established policies and procedures for Abuse/Neglect (alleged or suspected victims)
Qualifications
Minimal Qualifications
• Education:
- o High school graduate or equivalent
- Graduate of Surgical Technician diploma program
- CPR Certified
• Experience:
- Experience as a surgical/central supply technical preferred but not required.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Physical/Mental Demands
• Verbal ability is necessary to communicate with patients and staff; to understand instructions, limited medical terminology and concepts; and to keep accurate records.
• Manual dexterity is required to use hands skillfully.
• The physical demands are standing, walking, lifting, and pushing patients and/or carts, wheelchairs, reaching, handling, holding and using instruments, equipment, dressings, stooping, climbing, crouching, grasping, repetitive motions, medium work requirements, etc. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds in order to assist in moving patients from bed to stretcher and stretcher to bed.
• Form perception and near visual acuity to observe pertinent details of equipment and patients.
• Ability to think and work effectively under stress is necessary.
Occupational Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens
• Category I – Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
Orientation Period
• Up to 90 days to perform proficiently all essential position responsibilities. The first ninety (90) days this position is assumed is considered the probationary/introductory period, for which the employee is subject to continuous review.
