POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities Maintenance Technician ensures all aspects of the library facilities are in proper working order, available for use, and consistently maintained in a safe, functional, and clean condition. Areas of maintenance may include, but are not limited to: HVAC, plumbing, roofing/guttering, and building and grounds maintenance (i.e. snow removal).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In cooperation with the Director of Facilities & Maintenance, Assistant Facilities Manager, and other colleagues, the Facilities Maintenance Technician will advance the library’s mission, vision, strategic priorities, and brand. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Monitor, complete, and occasionally assign work activities utilizing the electronic work order system.
- Monitor and adjust the HVAC systems daily using dedicated software.
- Monitor and repair minor to moderate plumbing issues to include replacing fixtures, toilets, and clearing drains as needed.
- Rebuild or remodel interior spaces as assigned to include interior painting, repairing, or refinishing carpentry and furniture.
- Correct minor roofing systems and/or guttering repairs as assigned.
- Provide access to inspectors and communicate with security vendor for facility fire alarm and sprinkler testing.
- Actively research and recommend methods, materials, and supplies including cleaning supplies as assigned; coordinate purchase of materials with Director of Facilities & Maintenance and Assistant Facilities Manager.
- Proactively drive and maintain equipment of the Facilities & Maintenance department vehicles.
- Complete requests for new electrical service, cabling, or office moves.
- Meet with vendors or contractors as needed or assigned.
- Perform minor backup duties of the Assistant Facilities Manager.
- Assist Facilities & Maintenance leadership in developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule and conduct preventative maintenance as prescribed.
- Perform snow removal and other inclement weather activities; work with snow removal contractors to ensure safe conditions on exterior surfaces.
- Examine emergency exit and lighting systems as well as fire extinguishers and make minor to moderate repairs.
- Perform minor parking lot surface maintenance and minor repairs to landscaping.
- Participate in special projects, or other duties, as assigned.
