    POSITION DETAILS:
    EVSC Special Education Assistants work throughout the school year, beginning one day before school begins and ending on the last day of school. Enjoy your summers off! The schedule is 5 days per week at 6.75 hours per day and follows the EVSC School Board of Trustees approved school calendar. This includes 27 paid holidays throughout the school year!

    Additionally, Special Ed Assistants follow a salary schedule that provides an annual increase every year!

    This position is a Resource/General Education position. While employees will work in an assigned category, employees shall be required to support the needs of all students when necessary.

    The hourly rate for a current EVSC assistant will be based on years of service with EVSC in an assistant role. Annual, incremental pay increases are given for each year of service with the EVSC in this role if an employee has worked 120 days in a school year. New Employees begin on year 1.

    BENEFITS:
    EVSC offers four Anthem medical insurance plans. You can select a plan that is best for you. Single medical, dental and vision insurance are provided with this position. Employees may pay the additional cost to add family members. Click here to view the rates for each plan. If elected, insurance coverage begins the first of the month following the successful completion of a 30-day probationary period.

    Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use any of the three EVSC Health & Wellness Centers. The health clinics provide primary care services, generic prescription medications, physicals, health screenings, and labs; all at NO COST to the employee or covered family member.

    EVSC is proud to provide accumulated paid time off for:
    • 12 Sick days are provided annually and accumulate each year
    • 27 Holidays!
    • 3 Personal Business Days are provided annually and accumulate each year
    • Snow Days: Stay at home on a snow day and receive pay!
    EVSC employees have access to the EVSC Wee Care Learning Centers. The Wee Care program provides a quality early learning experience for employees' children as young as six weeks through age five at a special employee rate.

    This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). Employees may also participate in a 403(b) Plan. Enrolling in the 403(b) plan allows employees to save for their retirement by making a pre-tax salary deferral contributions to the Plan.

    Eligible employees may enroll in the EVSC group life insurance and long term disability plans. EVSC also offers a variety of voluntary insurance products through American Fidelity.

    EVSC offers a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP). It is a confidential, voluntary service that provides professional counseling and referral services designed to help employees and their family members with personal, job or family-related matters.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    High school diploma or GED required. Additionally, all new employees are required to complete required online professional development within 60 days of employment.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    Vacancy is posted first for EVSC Special Education Paraprofessional transfers. If no internal transfer takes place, outside applicants will be reviewed and considered.

    This position is based upon student enrollment in this school building. Fluctuating student enrollment may make it necessary to move an employee to another school building or reduction in hours. Enrollment is evaluated at the start of a new school year. The EVSC works diligently to ensure employees maintain the position that they are hired for but in some cases, transfers may occur in order to effectively serve EVSC students.

    SUMMARY:
    Assist teachers in the classroom or in resource settings with daily activities and student management.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

    • Assist teacher in routine classroom operation by working with students.
    • Prepare planned instructional materials, attendance reports and class reports.
    • Supervise students involved in non classroom activities; recess, lunch, room transitions, etc.
    • Implement/follow teacher instructions of classroom procedures.
    • Make appropriate referrals when teacher is not readily available.
    • Assist with clerical duties such as inventory, bulletin boards, collecting money, etc.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of students’ unique needs.
    • Keep records, write lessons on the board, support students’ work.
    • Assist with loading and unloading of students on buses.
    • In specific classes, will feed, toilet, and manage self-care needs.
    • Responsibilities may include non-medical procedures concerning personal hygiene of the students in addition to g-tube feedings.
    • While employees will work in an assigned category, employees shall be required to support the needs of all students when necessary.
    • Maintain regular attendance.

    • In specific program areas, other skills may be required, i.e., brailling skills in vision area, interpreting skills in hearing area.
