The Assistant Director of Curriculum instruction is responsible for leading the overall development and direction of classroom and school curriculum within the Bertha Alyce School. This position supports the BAS Director, leadership team, children, and families through mentorship, motivation, and collaboration in regard to curriculum, activities, and documentation of learning related to young children and families. Ability to assist in managing daily operations.
- Lead and motivate preschool educators, in conjunction with the Director to ensure overall success by communicating school vision and strategy, job expectations, coaching and fostering continued professional development.
- Ability to lead and manage the school operations and scheduling in Director’s absence.
- Mentor, support and collaborate with educational staff to continually deepen their thinking about teaching and learning and their ability to construct meaningful and responsive learning experiences with the children.
- Guide the development and implementation of Jewish and classroom curriculum; review and revise as needed.
- Ensure that the Jewish educational vision of the BAS school is reflected in the daily classroom practices.
- Ensure that differentiation among children’s learning styles and emotional needs are met by classroom teachers.
- Emphasize and fully support “constructivist” instruction by modeling, working in partnership with teachers and/or through ongoing coaching conversations.
- Provide ongoing support to teachers to improve their capacities for observing and listening to children, documenting projects, and conducting their own research.
- Meet with teaching teams to study and reflect upon the Jewish and classroom intentions in the classroom and create learning environments based on the children’s’ interests/needs.
- Ensure that documentation of curriculum occurs in every classroom and upholds the standards and philosophy of a constructivist approach.
- Work with Director and Leadership team to maintain best practices and school goals within the program.
- Support the Educational Leadership team in designing professional development meetings and opportunities for staff.
- Handle and address parent concerns and questions promptly and appropriately.
- Create and maintain a library of resources for teachers (books, articles, videos, etc.)
- Work with the educators and Educational Leadership team to coordinate school wide special events geared towards highlighting and articulating curriculum and educational approaches.
- Partner with the leadership team to ensure that the core values of the school are being reflected in everyday relationships and practice.
- Attend all required meetings, trainings, and events.
- Oversee materials and supplies.
- Identify grant opportunities that support curriculum.
- Attend cross department events, trainings, and functions.
- Represent the ERJCC in a professional manner and provide excellent customer service.
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- Participate in agency-wide in-service training programs.
- Participate in agency-wide Open House/Program Registration days as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years Classroom Experience
- BA degree and/or MA in Early Childhood Education, Education, and/or a related field required.
- 1-5 years Supervisory or Management experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excels at communicating to parents, board members and staff the goals of our programs. Able to interact professionally with all levels of internal and external personnel.
- Deadline/Task orientated sense of urgency.
- High energy takes responsibility.
- Team oriented.
- Willingness to be flexible and available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for special events.
- Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities but aides in member satisfaction and getting the job done.
