Overview:
This role will be split between two locations. Our Greensburg office, and our Monroeville location.
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Optometric Technician to join our team. The Optometric Technician is a vital member of the patient care team, delivering cost-effective, high-quality care. Serving as a liaison between the optometrist and the patient, the technician acts as a patient advocate and educator, ensuring accurate and timely test data for the optometrist and conveying information to the patient according to the optometrist's guidelines. Flexibility to travel to various office locations as needed is essential in this role.
Responsibilities:
Perform essential optometric skills, including:
- Measuring and recording visual acuities.
- Conducting auto-refraction and lensometer readings.
- Administering and recording color vision testing, Amsler grid evaluations, pupil assessments, keratometry, pupil dilation, stereoscopic vision testing, and basic ocular motility tests.
- Performing basic tonometry, including Goldmann applanation tonometry and iCare (training can be provided).
- Conducting manual blood pressure measurements.
- Applying basic principles of contact lens care, cleaning, and assessing contact lens fit (training available as needed).
- Running or learning to run Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Visual Fields (VF), and retinal/optic nerve head imaging.
Maintain and operate instruments and equipment with a focus on accuracy and reproducibility.
Conduct and complete patient charting, including documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, past ocular history, family history, systemic conditions, medications, allergies, drug reactions, and social history.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to all relevant safety and hygiene protocols
Minimum Work Experience/Educational Requirements:
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of aseptic technique and HIPAA guidelines
- Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 Year Ophthalmology or Optometry experience or relevant training.
- Certified as an Optometric Technician or Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (preferred).
- Must be able to work flexible hours and travel to all offices and outreach clinics as dictated by the needs of the practice.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work compatibly as a team member with physicians and other staff members.
- Working knowledge of Windows based programs.
- Working knowledge of systems. (PODIS, MDI and/or Nextech preferred).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
