Job Summary / Basic Function :
The Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a strategic partner who provides leadership and policy direction with direct oversight of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging functions.
In this role, the Associate Vice President serves as a strategic advisor to the College President within the senior leadership team. The responsibilities of this position are broad in scope, encompassing college-wide functions and addressing various issues. The Associate Vice President plays a key role in advancing the “Yes, and” culture and mission, vision, and goals of the College by fostering strong across the campus and with our broader community.
This leader must possess strong management, follow-through, and communication skills. They should understand and promote the connection between DEI functions and student learning, as well as institutional effectiveness outcomes. Additionally, they must be able to work with both broad concepts and specific details, attend to fine points of policy, exercise discretion and judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership, direction, advocacy, and administrative oversight for all members of the Equity and Social Justice team while promoting excellence and integrity.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and improve a holistic diversity, equity, and inclusion plan that fosters cross-College involvement and is informed by the Five Dimensions of Equity and Guided Pathways.
- Create and foster positive relationships with faculty, staff, and students by maintaining effective lines of communication and serving as a strong advocate for all.
- Plan, develop, and administer the annual budgets in assigned units; make recommendations on budget and financial data; monitor, control, and authorize expenditures in accordance with established budget procedures; and maintain appropriate records.
- Review, develop, and recommend administrative policies and procedures within your area of oversight and across the College that comply with state and federal regulations.
- Develop and initiate innovations related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging that are responsive to the rapidly changing environment in which our students live and learn, and our employees work.
- Exercise a key role in strategic planning, outcomes assessment, program review, program development, and resource allocation.
- Expand, develop, and coordinate relationships with community organizations designed to increase enrollment and the success of all students, including historically underrepresented populations.
- Develop, initiate, evaluate, refine, and continuously use data-informed strategic processes that support student success and employee retention.
- Assign, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned classified, professional, faculty, and administrative staff.
- Provide opportunities, sponsorship, and support for professional development, growth, and empowerment at all levels (faculty, staff, trainees).
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop programming designed to strengthen the culture of inclusion, belonging, and engagement at the College.
- Work collaboratively across the College to interrogate and analyze data to assess and improve institutional climate.
- Provide strategic direction for training initiatives on cultural competency, racial diversity, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, building a climate of equity and inclusion, professionalism, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values while maintaining compliance in collaboration with the College’s stakeholders.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, advocate, and resource for the College community.
