Technical Network Support Engineer

Position Overview:
The Technical Network Support Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing
the school district’s network infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure connectivity across all
campuses and administrative offices. This role involves collaborating with IT staff, administrators, and
external vendors to support the district’s technology needs and provide robust solutions for educational
and administrative purposes.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Network Administration and Support:

• Monitor and maintain the district’s wired and wireless network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and access points.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
• Configure and manage network hardware and software to support district-wide connectivity.

2. Security and Compliance:

• Implement and enforce network security protocols to protect sensitive data and comply with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policies.
• Monitor and respond to security threats and vulnerabilities, including managing firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations regarding data privacy and security.

3. Infrastructure Optimization:

• Perform regular performance evaluations of network systems and recommend upgrades or changes as needed.
• Collaborate on projects to modernize and expand network capabilities, including supporting one-to-one device initiatives and high-density environments.
• Participate in the planning and execution of disaster recovery strategies.

4. Technical Support:

• Provide Level 2 and 3 support for escalated networking issues from IT staff and other stakeholders.
• Support the implementation of new technologies and integrations across the district.
• Maintain documentation for network configurations, policies, and troubleshooting procedures.

5. Collaboration and Training:

• Work closely with the IT team to identify and resolve technology challenges.
• Train IT staff and end users on basic network functionality and best practices.
• Coordinate with managed service providers (MSPs) and vendors for network-related projects and support.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network , or equivalent (required).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in network administration or technical support, preferably in a K-12 environment.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network hardware (Cisco, Meraki, Aruba, etc.).
• Familiarity with network protocols, VLANs, VPNs, and QoS.
• Experience with cloud-based technologies and hybrid environments (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Azure, AWS).
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and tools, including firewalls, antivirus software, and encryption methods.

Soft Skills:

• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff, students, and external vendors.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in K-12 education technology systems.
• Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Aspen X2), learning management systems, and classroom technology.
• Understanding of ITIL processes and service delivery methodologies.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable working in tight spaces or on ladders to install and manage equipment.
• Availability for occasional after-hours work for maintenance or emergency response.
