Shared Ice Services (SIS) is looking for a collaborative and experienced HR Generalist to join our team. This position will provide HR support to our two shipyards: Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) and Everett Ship Repair (ESR). Based at our Everett Ship Repair yard, the HR Generalist will also travel regularly to the NBBB yard in Freeland, WA. SIS is the umbrella company that supports NBBB and ESR, both of which are vital to Ice Cap Holdings strong presence in the Pacific Northwest maritime community.
As an HR Generalist, you will support HR functions across multiple areas including employee data management, benefits coordination, recruitment, and maintaining confidential employee records. You will also utilize our HR Information System (HRIS) to generate and analyze reports on various HR metrics, such as benefits costs, staffing levels, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, and compensation.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide timely and effective support to employees for HR-related issues and concerns.
- Use HRIS software to manage employee data, process documents, and coordinate benefits, leave, and absence administration.
- Maintain both electronic and paper employee records, ensuring they are up-to-date and secure.
- Conduct employee surveys and analyze data to offer actionable insights for improving employee satisfaction.
- Oversee the 90-day and annual employee review cycles, ensuring all employees are reviewed in a timely manner.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with labor laws and HR regulations.
- Reinforce company policies and procedures, particularly those related to safety, and support a positive work environment.
- Stay informed on HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and employment law updates.
- Assist in recruitment efforts, track candidates progress using HRIS, and support the hiring process.
- Update and maintain job descriptions and requirements for all positions.
- Manage onboarding processes and conduct new employee orientations to ensure a smooth and positive start.
- Coordinate training sessions, workshops, and seminars based on departmental needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of professional HR experience, working with a diverse employee base.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience helping employees resolve HR-related issues.
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, with experience applying them in the workplace.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Cope with ambiguity and changing priorities quickly.
- Exceptional time management abilities with a proven track record of meeting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and delegating when appropriate.
- High-level customer service skills and the ability to respond to employee needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Computer savvy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience with or the ability to quickly learn HRIS and talent management systems.
- SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
