As a Second Assistant Superintendent, you'll assist in the daily oversight of golf course maintenance, including supervising staff, managing equipment, implementing agronomic practices, problem solving and ensuring the course is in top condition, all under the guidance of the Golf Course Superintendent.
Core Responsibilities
- Supervision and Training:
- Supervise and train grounds staff, ensuring efficient and effective work practices, upholding course standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of training, onboarding and motivating new and existing staff.
- Course Maintenance:
- Participate in and oversee daily golf course maintenance activities, including mowing, irrigation, applying fertilizers and chemicals and other tasks.
- Assist in the planning and execution of course set-up for events and tournaments.
- Maintain turf, including grass seeding, sod installation, mowing, aerating, and top dressing and fertilizing greens, tees, roughs, and fairways.
- Agronomic Practices:
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of fertilization and pest management programs.
- Monitor and assist in managing irrigation systems and schedules.
- Maintain accurate records of chemical and fertilizer applications.
- Equipment Management:
- Operate and maintain a variety of specialized equipment.
- Assist in the care of equipment and immediately communicate issues to the Superintendent and Equipment Manager.
- Maintain inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies as assigned.
- Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections of equipment and work areas.
- Provide safety training to staff.
- Communication:
- Serve as a communication link between the grounds crew and the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Communicate course conditions/issues and maintenance activities to the Superintendent, Second Assistant and Equipment Manager.
- Communicate daily cart path rule & any weather delays with Pro shop in Superintendent’s absence.
- Proactively find and implement solutions to routine challenges as they arise.
- Other Duties:
- Creation of daily schedules and job assignments under the guidance of the Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent.
- Manage record keeping for equipment settings, cultural practices, and application records.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Weekend crew leadership and in the absence of the Superintendent and Senior Assistant.
- Must have or be be able to obtain WSDA Private Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License within 90 days.
