Job Title: Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist

Salary Range: $60,000 – 80,000

About The Position

The EHS Specialist is responsible for assuring the implementation of Evergreen Goodwill of Northwest Washington’s risk and safety policies and procedures to ensure team member safety and environmental excellence. This role assists with determining the direction and implementation of a variety of occupational health, safety, environmental loss prevention programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for the organization.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities Include The Following.

  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Survey to identify and evaluate occupational health, safety and environmental conditions.
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
  • Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
  • Assist in accident investigation and root cause analysis and recommend solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Assist in the development of specialized education and training materials. Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information.
  • Assist in new team member occupational health, safety and environmental orientation. Conduct/Co-lead Safety Committee meetings.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance programs related to hazardous wastes and reporting to DOE/EPA.
  • Perform daily EHS administrative tasks.
  • All other duties or projects as assigned.

Education And Experience

  • 2 to 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with Washington State and local environmental, health or safety regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with hazardous materials storage and transportation, emergency response, powered industrial vehicles, and ergonomics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of delivering hands on health, safety and environmental training. Ability to implements and coordinate comprehensive health and safety accident prevention programs.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion skills and ability to protect confidential information.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple projects in a timely manner.

Certificates, Licenses, Or Registrations

  • Valid WA State driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Computer/Technology Skills

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.

Physical Abilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit or stand for long periods of time, communicate with other employees by talking and hearing, required to lift and carry items weighing up to 10-30 pounds and to operate computer systems. Must have well-developed fine motor control and the ability to grasp, handle, finger and manipulate small and large items. Must be able to perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms, without pain or loss of function; travel across a wide variety of surfaces including, but not limited to, ramps, stairs, and uneven terrain. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to communicate with others effectively both verbally and written, including those who have limited English skills. Maintain reliable attendance.

Work Environment: Various working environments to include: office, retail, production and warehouse. Moderate noise level, dust. Must have reliable transportation as this position requires regular travel to store locations and offsite meetings. Must be able to work non-standard hours if required. This position will require approximately 25%- 50% travel (local) between several facilities across 5 counties in WA in which Evergreen Goodwill of Northwest Washington operates. This position is based out of the Seattle Administration Building.
