Private Piano Teacher

Evergreen Music School in Montgomery, OH is seeking a passionate, private piano teacher to join our team as Private Piano Teacher for our PK4-12th grade piano students!

Evergreen Music School is a music lessons studio that is Christian-owned, psychologically-informed, and innovative and student-centered in teaching approach. We hold equally the values of high-quality piano education and the pure FUN and enjoyment of music as a life-enriching art form. Our families come to us because they want their children to 1) learn a valuable expressive skill, or 2) to simply pass down the joy of music making they got to experience as a child.

How our piano program works: Beginner to elementary level piano students start off in our Foragers lab lessons program, where they learn the foundations of fingerings, note reading, and practicing. Once students are late elementary/early intermediate levels and higher, they move into private lessons for greater focus on technique, musicality, and personalized repertoire and skills. While we occasionally have earlier level students wanting private lessons, the private piano teacher’s job will primarily be to teach this late elementary and up population the joy, reward, and intricacies of piano playing.

If you believe you’ve been called to work with kids and teens in this way, and/or are already an engaging, personable, and uplifting piano teacher, this position could be a perfect fit! As the Private Piano Teacher, you will build meaningful, fun relationships with students and assist them in learning piano independently, and answer their musical (and not so musical!) questions, provide guidance, and help them overcome musical challenges.

We’re seeking a teaching professional to train students in the beauty of music for 3-4 hours each day, 2 afternoons/early evenings per week of your choice (between Monday-Friday).

Essential Duties:

• Welcome students and families by name and help transition them into the classroom.
• Plan, facilitate, and lead a productive lessons environment, balancing both positive and constructive feedback to lead students to reaching success.
• Uphold the 3 studio-wide Evergreen Ground Rules (Respect Yourself, Respect Others, Respect Things)
• Email any sheet music and communicate student updates to parents, as needed.
• Communicate with the owner about students’ progress or concerning behaviors to address.
• Prepare students for optional Evergreen-wide recitals, regional and state festivals, and other special theory and performing events.
• Co-lead or attend occasional Evergreen recitals, other performance fests/events, and student workshops/parties (as needed).

Skills:

• Advanced level or higher piano/theory education and experience
• Demonstrates patience and respect with kids and teens
• Ability to effectively communicate musical concepts and provide guidance to students
• Ability to communicate feedback with a positive spin
• Comfortable with students with exceptionalities or disabilities (like giftedness, ADHD, anxiety, autism with low-medium support needs, fine motor disabilities, etc.)

Job Type: Part-time W-2 employee

Pay: $25-30 per hour starting pay, commensurate with direct piano teaching experience

Schedule:

• Afternoon/early evening shift at least 2 weekdays required, 3-4 hour availability block strongly preferred
• Opportunity to schedule additional daytime or Saturday lessons with adults, preschoolers, homeschoolers, and/or other population(s) of your preference

Requirements:

• Direct private lesson teaching experience with kids and/or teens: 1 years
• Piano/theory competency: equivalent to RCM Level 8 or higher
• Reliable, timely transportation
• Successfully pass a background check
