ROVING PARAEDUCATOR SUBSTITUTE

LOCATION: Hearthwood Elementary School

REPORTS TO: Classroom Instructor/Building Principal

DEPARTMENT: Elementary/Secondary


Substitute hourly position that transfers to an instructional paraeducator position upon successful completion of paraeducator assessment within 90-day probationary period. If assessment requirement not met within 90 days, position will transfer for regular On-Call Classified Subsitute position at regular substitute rate.


Hours / Work Times


6.33 Hours Per Day (7:40 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch)

4.33 Hours on Early-Release Days (7:40 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. includes 30 minutes unpaid time)

6.17 Hours Per Day on Designated Full Wednesdays (7:40 a.m. – 2:20 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch)


190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)


This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 12/05/24


Position Duration: Permanent


Classification Group: Paraeducator Class II (Pay Rate $21.50 During 90-day Probationary Period)

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Under the supervision of the classroom instructor and building principal, the roving paraeducator substitute will assist in the supervision of student behavior, activities and student safety by working closely with students on an individual as well as a small group basis.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the classroom instructor and building principal in supervising and working with students as follows:
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.
  • Assist in providing one-to-one and group support to students.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment as specified by course goals and curriculum outcomes.
  • Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
  • Assist in organizing and preparing materials as directed by the classroom instructor.
  • Assist with reinforcing behavioral expectations and management.
  • Maintain accurate data on student progress.
  • Assist students with technology.
  • Implement behavioral management strategies using techniques demonstrated by the classroom instructor.
  • Assist with meeting the needs of students with regard to their personal health and safety (may include toileting, feeding, lift/position students).
  • Attend various trainings.
  • Travel to various schools as directed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:

Computer/laptop, copy machines, telephone, and all other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions as listed above.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete paraeducator assessment within 90 days.
  • Basic typing/keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise students.
  • Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate the office equipment as listed above.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under conditions of constant interruption.
  • Must possess physical strength and ability to deal with potentially aggressive behavior of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS:

Testing requirements for transferring to an instructional paraeducator position, applicant must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent;
  • Within 90 days, successful completion of one of the following paraeducator assessments:
    • Education Testing Service (ETS) Paraeducator Test – Meet or exceed a score of 455
    • Person Paraprofessional Assessment – Meet or exceed a score of 220
    • The Master Teacher Inc. Program – Meet or exceed a score of 65%
