An Assistant Project Accountant provides administrative and accounting support on construction projects
Essential Functions
- Assist in day-to-day project accounting operations
- Reviews field reporting for reasonableness and accuracy as compared to estimate, submitted documentation and customer records.
- Researches and codes receiving tickets
- Codes invoices from subcontractors, vendors and suppliers per project terms
- Demonstrates sound reasoning, judgement and problem-solving skills when faced with a situation they have not encountered before.
- Reconciles quantities
- Scans and files documentation into the electronic and/or physical job file
- Works with the team to assist in preparing reports for various activities, including accounts receivable, subcontracts, total job costs, etc.
- Enters data for weekly/monthly cost and variance reports
- Communicates with internal/external customers.
- Answers inquiries professionally via phone, email or in-person.
- Visits job sites to review completed work as needed
- Attends various meetings before, during and after project completion
- Develops effective relationships internally with field, operations and estimating personnel and externally with customers, subcontractors and suppliers
- Promotes and maintains safe work environment.
- Wears all prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Required Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Construction Management or related field, or equivalent work experience in a cost accounting or accounting position is required
- Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Construction Management or related field or equivalent work experience in a cost accounting or accounting position is preferred
- Preferred 1 years experience in heavy highway construction industry preferred
- Preferred 1 years experience with accounting software (i.e. Vista, QuickBooks, Timberline)
- Preferred 1 years experience with cost accounting
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Self-Starter – Takes initiative to identify a problem and work to solve it. Good decision making and decision quality
- Functional skills with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook,etc) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of accounting software and tools (Viewpoint by Vista, Quickbooks, Timberline or similar).
- Prior success at executing projects in a timely manner and in achieving results on schedule.
- Team Player – works well independently but recognizes the value of working with teams
- Flexible – must be willing to learn quickly and respond to changing environments
- Efficient – Able to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while being detailed and highly organized
- Drivers license is required
- The compensation for this posiiton is $60,000 per year.
- This position is also eligible for an annual bonus, and health and retirement benefits.
- This is a full-time, salaried position, normally 40 hours per week, however seasonal workload may require additional work hours. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, during normal business hours
- Clerical, indoor office environment that includes standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, phones, filing cabinets, fax machines, cubicles
- Some exposure to construction job sites, including inclement weather, noise, moving traffic
- Sits at a desk 6-8 hours a day
- Performs data entry, alpha and 10-key numeric, on a keyboard
- Looks at a computer screen 6-8 hours a day
- Occasional travel to other office locations or job sites may be necessary. Mostly day travel but some overnight travel at times
