Job Summary:
- The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative procedures to assist with patient care in one or more agency programs. The duties must follow the RCW 18.360.050.
- The position is full time onsite and the days and hours are Monday through Friday, 5:30 AM - 2 PM.
- Job Functions may occur in the Mobile Dispensary, Medical Van, or Clinic Site.
What you contribute to this role – Responsibilities:
- Help ETS succeed in carrying out our mission through working together with other staff to transform systems of harm and inequity to create different approaches to improving community health and safety through addressing substance use and homelessness.
- Assist with the organization-wide initiative to reimagine our interconnectedness within our community to overcome the aspects of our society and organizational culture shaped by white supremacy and settler colonialism.
Medical Provider Team Duties:
- Communicate with Medical Providers regarding labs, reports, or communication from outside agencies.
- Obtain patient history, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, observe and report patients' signs or symptoms and document all information in patient’s chart. Give report to Medical Provider before Medical Intake.
- Telehealth equipment chaperone during exam with remotely located Medical Provider.
- State Prescription Drug Monitoring Program checks
- Perform electrocardiograms
- Perform phlebotomy and send samples to commercial lab. Some of our patients have difficult venous access and prior phlebotomy experience is preferred.
- Administer vaccinations.
- Perform Point-of-care fingerstick testing for HIV and hepatitis C
- Manage and update a patient registry for Hepatitis C testing and treatment.
- Administer Vaccinations and Intramuscular medications
- Place PPDs for tuberculosis screening
- Give instructions to patients as instructed by Medical Provider.
- Collaborate with front desk, counseling, nursing, and other departments to assist with communication between departments and Medical Providers.
Administrative Duties:
- Greeting patients, updating and filing patients' medical records,
- Answering telephones, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments
- Arranging for laboratory services
- Assisting patients with forms
- Monitoring and ordering supplies.
Clinical Duties:
- Taking medical histories and assisting with collecting information for intakes,
- Performing oral fluid or urine testing,
- Performing phlebotomy, performing point-of-care fingerstick testing for blood-borne pathogens,
- Administering vaccinations, recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination
- Registering medications
- Assisting the medical provider during the examination
- Assisting patients with referrals to outside providers.
The MA will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team providing medical treatment to a population of patients that are often subjected to stigma. All team members are encouraged to foster a welcoming, non-judgmental environment that promotes interventions that can reduce harm, improve engagement, and “meet patients where they are.

Requirements
What you bring to this role – Qualifications:
- Credential (License, Certification, Provider One, etc.)
- Medical Assistant Certification (WAC 246-827-0200)
- Experience in Phlebotomy preferred
- Education and/or Relevant and Lived Experience (if applicable):
- High school diploma: some college preferred
- Healthcare field and medical specialty
- Knowledge and Skills:
- An understanding of racial justice and social equity and a commitment to helping create an equitable environment for all ETS clients and patients as well as fellow staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, and staff from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling highly sensitive information.
- Knowledge of electronic health records.
- Strong interpersonal skills and verbal/ written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and complete tasks timely and efficiently.

Additional Essential Information:
Physical Conditions and Requirements:
- The employee may be exposed to illicit drug residues and fumes or other bio-hazardous materials when carrying out job functions. There is also potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens. ETS will provide employees with appropriate training to limit the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Policies and procedures are in place addressing each item specifically.
- The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, and kneel; occasionally to climb balance, or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Equipment Used:
- Computer, photocopier, fax machine, phone, and ECG, blood pressure cuff, Sa02 monitor, thermometer.
- Possible use of a program vehicle, for which a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving would be required.
