Description

Title: Substance Use Disorder Professional

Location: Seattle Clinic

This is an non exempt full time position

Hours 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday with the occasional Saturday shift (Saturday clinic hours are 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM). Any changes to work schedule is negotiated with employee's supervisor.

The compensation range is $31-34/hr.

Job Summary 

The counselor shall serve as the primary contact person with their assigned patients. It is through the counselor’s ongoing contact with their patients the major objectives of treatment are attained. The counselor, in accordance with agency policy and procedures, federal, state, and local guidelines, shall provide assigned patients with, assessment, individual and group counseling, case management and coordinate overall patient care while enrolled at Evergreen Treatment Services. The nature of this position is fast-paced in high-stress situations and conditions.  


Job Functions (May Include): 

  • Consistently implement established agency policies and treatment procedures regarding work with assigned patients. 
  •  Provide initial assessment, individual and group counseling and case management services to assigned patients.  
  • Consistently maintain professional boundaries with patients and coworkers.  
  • Prompt, accurate completion of progress notations of all interactions with patients in assigned patient files. 
  • Professional preparation and prompt submission of: 
  • Initial assessment and treatment plan  
  •  90-day treatment plan 
  • Responses to positive urinalysis / breathalyzer results 
  • Administrative Taper notices 
  • Letters of assistances and referral for assigned patients
  • Closing treatment summaries for discharged patients 
  • Daily activity forms 
  • Required state and agency recording forms (such as TARGET reports) 
  • Act consistently to protect the confidentiality of all patients and the integrity of professional staff communication and behavior. 
  • Adhere to all the confidentiality requirements and guidelines outlined in the 42 CFR, Part 2 federal regulations pertaining to chemical dependency treatment records. 
  • Serve as a leader or co-leader of therapy or educational groups and provide other treatment activities.
  • Meet with primary supervisor for the purposes of patient clinical consultation and clinical skill development, and/or other designated supervisor staff for the purposes of reviewing patient documentation and treatment planning issues. 
  • Coordinate assigned patient treatment with other staff departments (such as dispensary, reception, medical and psychiatric staff). 
  • Participate in the Counselor of the day program 
  • Participate in Treatment Team meetings where they will review patient treatment progress and status, hear and act on patient appeal of administrative action and program non-compliance issues. 
  • May also be responsible for the observation of patient urine collection for the purpose of drug screen urinalysis when needed. 
  • Some local travel may be required on behalf of the agency. 

Requirements

Qualification Requirements 

Education Academic training in the social service field and in the area of substance use disorder treatment is required in accordance with the qualifications for a Department of Health licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional (S.U.D.P.) as stipulated in the WAC. 

The counselor is required to maintain this status and complete continuing education requirements throughout their employment. The Counselor must also provide the agency with ongoing documentation of their current Washington Department of Health S.U.D.P. license credential throughout their employment. 

Experience Work experience in the social service field and in the area of substance use disorder treatment is required in accordance with the qualifications for a Department of Health licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional (S.U.D.P) as stipulated in the WAC. 

Additional Requirements 

  • The counselor shall have good interpersonal skills and knowledge of substance abuse treatment planning and counseling issues. 
  • The counselor shall be able to work well under stressful situations and conditions and be creative in developing and implementing effective approaches to chemical dependency treatment. 
  • Counselors with a history of personal substance abuse must have been abstinent for a minimum of three years prior to employment.
  • Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic medical records systems, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change. 
  •  Ability to prioritize workload and activities and follow through on assigned tasks to assure completion in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and switch between tasks quickly. 
  • Dependable, able to work under pressure, receptive to change, willing to learn, cooperative approach to problem-solving 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; good diplomatic skills, including strong conflict-resolution skills.  
  • Flexible team player and strong planning skills. 10. Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills. 
  • Good basic clerical skills including typing, ability to proof own work, good grammar, and spelling. 
  • Work hours are negotiated and approved by the employee’s supervisor, as evening and weekend hours may occasionally be required when needed.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.  

Language Skills 

  • Ability to read and interpret general business correspondence, policies, and procedures, referral information, financial documentation, and applicable government regulations.
  •  Ability to write business letters, uncomplicated reports, instructions, and procedures.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from patients, staff, referral sources, and the general public. 

Mathematical Skills and Reasoning Ability 

  •  Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply business arithmetic skills accurately and rapidly.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization may be limited. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram format

Physical Requirements 

  • The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, and kneel; occasionally to climb balance, or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Equipment Used Computer, photocopier, fax machine, and phone.
