What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineer, Transmission System Planning (Hybrid) position at Eversource Energy?
The Engineer will work with complex systems and equipment, while providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. We offer a unique and exciting opportunity to explore the best of both worlds, working both in the office and the field on a variety of interesting projects. Areas of expertise include designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, working with transformers, engineering the electrical protection and control circuits that handles the flow of power, and dealing with acceptance testing of equipment, failures of equipment and analysis of system disturbances.
This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office.
Essential Functions :
- Develop and maintain the system models for transmission studies including collection, review and / or modification of a variety of electric system parameters : equipment ratings, impedances, contingency sets, protection and control parameters, as well as system topology
- Conducts adequacy assessments and develop options to meet delivery objectives with latitude for independent action and decision making.Typical reliability studies include analyses of power flow, transient stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients.Identifies key technical issues and develops solutions
- Responsible to understand, interpret and apply industry and corporate transmission planning standards and the regulations of Federal, State and Local authorities
- Represents the department and the company on various industry related committees
- Participates with other utilities and the planning staff of the Independent System Operator (ISO) in the preparation of regional transmission expansion studies
- Employs teamwork with engineers in System Planning, Transmission Asset Strategy, and engineers and operating personnel elsewhere in Electric Operations in performing analyses and providing technical support in planning and operational environments
- Plans, develops and collaborates in the implementation and management of the life cycle plan for transmission assets
- Communicates clearly and effectively verbally and in writing the results of analyses and action plan
- Contributes to the development of the budget for the Electric Operations through cost-effective programs and projects to meet customer and system needs
- Trains junior staff in technical analyses and procedures
