About the Role:
The Youth Care Professional plays a crucial role in providing support and guidance to at-risk young people aged 14-21. This position is designed to ensure that youth receive the care and attention they need. The Youth Care professional will be responsible for creating a safe, clean, and nurturing environment that promotes the emotional and social development of the youth. By engaging with the youth, the YCP will help them navigate challenges and foster positive relationships. Ultimately, the goal is to empower youth to achieve their personal goals and enhance their overall well-being.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with youth in a group care or educational setting minimum of one year.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Previous experience in crisis intervention or behavioral management.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and supervision to youth in residential or community settings.
- Implement individualized care plans and support strategies tailored to each youth's needs.
- Engage youth in recreational and educational activities to promote skill development.
- Monitor and document youth behavior and progress, reporting any concerns to the Unit Supervisor, Therapist, and/or Treatment Team Manager.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care and support for each youth.
Skills:
- The required skills for this position include strong communication and interpersonal abilities, which are essential for building rapport with youth and effectively conveying support. Problem-solving skills are utilized daily to address the unique challenges that arise in a dynamic care environment. Organizational skills are important for managing documentation, routines, and ensuring that care plans are followed accurately. Preferred skills, such as crisis intervention techniques, enhance the professional's ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations. Providing accurate and timely incident reports and other documentation, as needed.
Open Full-time shifts:
Back-end afternoon shift: Wednesday-Saturday. Wed 1230pm-10pm, TR/Fri 2pm-10pm, Sat 10am-10pm.
Back End Awake overnight: Thursday-Saturday. 10pm-8am (or to 10am)
- Work Environment: In the nature of being in a residential environment, there may be times you experience conditions in which challenging behavior can be exhibited from our youth to include but not limited to, physical agitation, physical violence and/or emotion outburst. Behavioral interventions require the YCP to be able to safely perform physical restraints, when necessary, as outlined and trained via Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is contingent upon successfully passing of background checks, CPS, physical, TB, and drug testing, as well as successful completion of orientation trainings.
