Title: GIS Utility Coordinator
Location(s): Milwaukee, WI or Cleveland, OH
Position Summary:
The GIS Utility Coordinator acts as a point of contact for 811 locating systems, responding to planning tickets and utility inquiries in a fast-paced, productive environment. This role will report through Everstream’s GIS team and may also be required to assist with some GIS tasks as needed. Utility coordinators should have a technical understanding of the project, have overall knowledge of GIS, and be familiar with state laws and regulations. They should also be able to act as a liaison between stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with GIS related software and programs to provide utility maps for legitimate planning ticket inquiries submitted via 811 systems.
- Locate existing utilities and coordinate new installations.
- Analyze and resolve conflicts with design, and coordinate with stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Collaborate with GIS Specialists and Field Services Engineers to define data needs.
- Coordinate the relocation of utilities that interfere with projects.
- Document job progress and maintain records.
- Enter new map data via GIS software using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.
- Interact daily with supervisors and/or functional peer groups to ensure a standard of quality is met within schedule.
- Read and revise As-builts, Base Maps, DWG drawings, KMZ or KML files, and Shapefiles files.
- Export and import detailed fiber data for new build jobs and preliminary projects.
- Work with others on team-oriented projects and assignments as needed.
- Must be able to prioritize multiple projects and communicate with clients, designers, and utility owners.
- Be tentative after hours on urgent or high priority requests and flexibility in work schedule.
- Must be able to work efficiently to keep utility coordination queues in check.
Requirements:
- 1-2 years of GIS experience
- Communication & teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Telecommunications / Utility experience
- ArcGIS experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- Experience with map reading and construction drawings
