Job Summary
As the senior technical engineer within the Network Operations Center (NOC), you will be responsible for providing expert technical guidance, conducting complex network troubleshooting, and implementing advanced issue resolution and management strategies. You will address issues that arise through a structured, tiered escalation process. Additionally, your role will involve mentoring and training Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 network engineers on emerging technologies and the platforms used to monitor the company's network.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain the NOC process documentation and recommend improvements for internal and external departments.
- Coordinate the administration of all NOC-owned tools and applications, including customizations, report building, alert modifications, and automation.
- Support Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 engineers by addressing on-shift questions, concerns, and ticket escalations.
- Support advanced optical transport networks related to backbone traffic aggregation and transport.
- Conduct ongoing path evaluations and link optimizations to maximize network performance and operation.
- Self-manage risk mitigation and reduce exposure to system security threats and business interruptions within the company's infrastructure; actively participate in disaster recovery efforts.
- Report all tasks and project progress to the Manager.
- Identify key trends and execute remediation plans for recurring incidents.
Experience and Qualifications:
Required:
- 3 years of advanced support experience with multi-protocol IP backbone and access networks (running OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, and Layer 2 Switching) in a service provider environment.
- 3 years of supporting various transport protocols, primarily Ethernet, DWDM, and CWDM.
- 3 years of operating Juniper Networks advanced Routing and Switching Platforms (Cisco, Nokia, and Acedian experience acceptable).
- 3 years of troubleshooting and resolving complex routing and switching issues in an IP-based carrier network.
- 3 years of experience using and managing Network Management Systems such as SolarWinds, Netcool, or WhatsUp Gold.
- 2 years of experience operating MPLS VPN technologies, including L2VPNs, L3VPNs, and VPLS.
- 2 years of experience with Traffic Engineering and QoS solutions, such as DiffServ, RSVP, and Queuing.
- 2 years of experience managing IPv4 and IPv6 space.
- 2 years of hands-on experience with basic and advanced network troubleshooting tools.
- 2 years of experience implementing and troubleshooting optical systems.
- Hands-on experience with UNIX systems (BSD, Linux, and CentOS).
- JNCIP Network Certification desired but not required.
Desirable:
- College degree in Computer Science, Networking, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic-based systems.
- Experience administering and managing IPv4 and IPv6 space.
- Experience in the operation and implementation of IP networks.
- Solid understanding of internet routing and advanced network peering.
- Knowledge of data centers and data center operations.
- Experience with AC and DC power systems.
- Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure.
