What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paddleboard & Kayaking Instructor position at Everwood Day Camp?
Our Paddleboard (SUP) and Kayaking Instructor will create and teach curriculum for children, aged from 6 to 15, on beautiful 350-acre Lake Massapoag. You will be responsible for teaching the fundamentals of paddleboards/SUPs and kayaking while keeping it fun, diverse, educational and age-appropriate. You will be responsible for running activity periods for groups of up to 15 children at a time, assisted by 1 or 2 of their counselors. This Instructor position is perfectly suited to a student or teacher (or similar) who has some paddleboarding/SUP and kayaking experience. We will reimburse a portion of the cost for your Red Cross lifeguard certification (transferable to other jobs) in addition to providing you paddleboard & kayaking instruction training. The upkeep and basic maintenance of the lakefront beach area, boats and docks is also part of the job. You may also be required to assist with other waterfront activities, including lifeguarding. You will be supported by a Waterfront Director, who will provide guidance and feedback throughout the summer. Come and join our dynamic and diverse team!
JOB & CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
An enthusiastic, motivated, warm, friendly, caring individual.
Strong swimmer.
The ability to communicate, through patience and clarity, with children and co-workers.
Applicants must at least have at least finished 12th grade by the end of June.
PREFERRED
Current lifeguard qualification but this can be gained after the interview.
DATES, HOURS AND PAY
9:00am to 3:30pm (this includes a 30-minute break per day)
June 23rd to Aug 22nd (9 wks, preferred) or Aug 15th (8 wks) and hours are guaranteed.
Mon to Fri each week except for July 4th when we are closed.
Wage is between $18-$19 an hour.
Extra income can be made (up to $1000), working as a Bus Counselor or Extended Day staff.
LOCATION
Sharon, MA but with free bus transportation from all over MA!
We need Bus Counselors from Boston, Braintree, Brookline, Chestnut Hill, Needham, Newton, Somerville, Wellesley and more!
Housing is NOT included.
Everwood Day Camp is an outdoor focused summer camp featuring many physically demanding activities on land and water. Staff members are regularly required to walk, hike and otherwise move in woods, fields, beaches, and lakes. To perform the job, each staff member of Everwood Day Camp must be physically able to travel around a large rural environment (fields, woods, beach, etc.) over uneven ground on a regular basis.
