Director of Resident Services

The Director of Resident Services plans, develops, organizes, and implements activities which stress recreation, diversion, and intellectual/educational development for Residents; manages the day-today concerns of the Residents, coordinating necessary resources; promotes the Volunteer Program and represents the facility to the area churches and the wider community, including recruitment and retention of Volunteers for all areas of the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops, plans and implements a program of activities which will provide entertainment, communication, exercise, relaxation, opportunity to express creative talent and to fulfill basic psychological, physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs. 2. Participates in planning budget yearly.
3. Functions as liaison to community and civic organizations and resources such as area churches, educational institutions, services for the elderly, etc., and make use of services and personnel as appropriate.
4. Conducts interviews, hires department staff, conducts counseling and initiates disciplinary action as necessary.
5. Works closely with Activity staff, Director of Spiritual Life and area churches to ensure appropriate interdenominational religious opportunities are provided for residents.
6. Works with all Departments to facilitate communication and address resident concerns, as needed.
7. Works with all Department Heads of the organization to determine the needs for volunteers, to work out schedules and lines of supervision and intercedes in the event of problems.
8. Recruits campus volunteers from both the resident population and the larger community, emphasizing relations with local churches and civic organizations. Oversees volunteer application and orientation process.
9. Participates in regular staff meetings and staff planning sessions to keep current with policies, procedures, and objectives, and helps communicate these to employees, residents and volunteers.
10.Coordinates the recommendations and purchasing of equipment and supplies necessary to operations of various areas of responsibility and authorized by the budget.
11. Initiates and promotes activities both within the facility and outside the facility to stimulate and promote resident interest and general well being.
12. Oversees all the Commons Areas of Independent Living on the campus, making sure areas are neat and presentable for various activities, and ensures the return of those areas to their previous condition when activities are completed.
13.Attends regular staff meetings and staff planning sessions to keep current with policies, procedures, and objectives, and helps communicate these to employees, residents and volunteers.
14. Encourages, plans, implements, and evaluates craft activities and hobbies among residents and groups in the common areas, in the Craft/Activity Rooms and in resident rooms.
15. Maintains a safe environment for all residents under his/her supervision and participates in facility safety program.
16. Provides oversight and coordinates scheduling transporation for residents to on and off-site activities. Drives as needed.
17. Develops and implements social programs which will provide communication among residents through group activities and recreations.
18.Assists in organizing trips including securing tickets and making reservations as needed.
19.Responsible for and plans intellectual/educational development through literature, records, movies, cultural events, etc.
20. Encourages residents to participate in religious activities to fulfill their basic spiritual needs.
21.Assures maintenance of activities bulletin boards throughout the campus.
22. Develops weekly and monthly schedules and calendars of activities.
23. Maintains appropriate documentation and record keeping.
24.Works with new residents to assure their orientation and involvement in activities. 25.Assists with personal shopping for residents.
26. Maintains driver’s license, auto liability insurance and safe driving record.
27. Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: A. Minimal Education: 1. High School diploma required. College degree in Human Services or related field preferred. B. Minimal Experience: 1. Valid driver's license, and ability to meet EveryAge auto insurance carrier's standards for coverage. Eligible for chauffeur’s license. 2. Experience working in a skilled nursing or assisted living setting. C. Other Qualifications: 1. Previous supervisory experience preferred. 2. One year experience with recreational programming in a geriatric setting preferred. E. Travel: No overnight travel. Maybe asked to assist in other facilities. F. Supervision: Works with close supervision, consults with supervisor on any unusual situation. Supervises Resident Services Coordinator
