Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. Duties
- Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities in daily living activities.
- Assist with personal care tasks including bathing, grooming, and hygiene.
- Monitor and document clients' health and well-being, reporting any changes to the appropriate personnel.
- Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary needs and preferences.
- Administer medications as prescribed and ensure compliance with medication schedules.
- Engage clients in social activities that promote community involvement and personal interests.
- Support clients in developing life skills such as budgeting, cooking, and household management.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment for clients.
- Collaborate with other professionals such as nurses and social workers to coordinate care plans.
Requirements
- Previous experience in caregiving or patient care is preferred.
- Knowledge of patient monitoring techniques and medication administration is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working with people who have developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Ability to prepare meals that meet specific dietary requirements.
- A background in social work or nursing can be beneficial but is not mandatory.
- Must possess patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others achieve their goals.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
- Must have a vehicle and active driver license and be willing to take client out in the community. Mileage will be reimbursed for this.
