Audio/Video Technician

Overview

A local litigation support firm is seeking technically-minded, reliable, and professional individuals to work freelance onsite and remote audio/video jobs. Training and equipment provided for the right candidate.

Onsite job duties consist of driving to a location (often a law firm or doctor's office), setting up audio/video equipment (camera, mixer, microphones, laptop, etc), recording a deposition or meeting, and then delivering the recording (uploading files and/or shipping deliverables). We also do some of our work remotely via video-conference, but we are looking to invest time and training into people who are willing to work both onsite and remotely.

Reliability, punctuality, and personal presentation are of utmost importance. Audio or video experience is highly desirable. We run video capture software for every videography job, so a powerful Windows laptop is required, preferably with at least a six-core processor, a powerful discrete graphics card, at least 16GB of ram, and internal SSD. Also required: a reliable car, a smartphone with access to texts, emails, and GPS navigation, and fast home internet access (upload and download speed are both important).

Compensation

For onsite jobs, we pay videographers $22 per hour and reimburse all travel expenses in full (gas, parking, metro, tolls, etc). For each job, videographers bill 1.5 hours for setup, 1 hour for breakdown and delivery, and at least 3 hours of deposition time. So if a deposition is less than 3 hours, even if it lasts only five minutes, videographers bill 5.5 hours at $22/hour ($121 travel expenses). If a deposition lasts 8 hours, videographers bill 10.5 hours ($231 travel expenses).

For remote depositions, the rate is the same but the hours may differ slightly depending on the type of work.

Our videographers work 3-5 jobs per week.

Availability Is Key

Scheduling often happens the evening before a job, so the perfect candidate is someone who can rearrange their other work on the fly and on short notice in order to cover any weekday job we offer them, regardless of the day of the week it falls on. Video editing, graphic design, web design, and the like are very harmonious with our jobs, as the perfect candidate is someone who doesn't have a fixed weekday schedule, and can prioritize our jobs five days a week, yet still get their other work done when they're not working for us. In other words, the perfect candidate is someone who can cover every job we offer them.
