Job Summary:
The Furniture Engineering Lead is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of marine furniture systems. A critical responsibility of this role is also the introduction of and problem-solving related to the components developed. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient production, quality control, and continuous improvement within the furniture engineering department. The Furniture Engineering Lead will play a crucial role in optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Management
Assist with training and developing team members
Design & Development
Develop prototype models in conjunction with CAD/3D design to test design feasibility.
Design jigs, fixtures, and other tooling to support furniture manufacturing operations.
Proven ability to design and construct prototypes and mock-ups of marine furniture and mechanisms with precision, ensuring functionality, durability, and adherence to design specifications.
Process Improvement
Analyze current furniture manufacturing processes and identify areas for improvement.
Develop and execute process improvement projects to enhance product quality, reduce cycle time, and lower costs.
Quality Assurance
Collaborate with the Quality team to establish and maintain quality standards for components.
Conduct root cause analysis of product defects and implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Project Management
Lead and manage marine furniture projects from concept through to production, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and quality objectives are met.
Coordinate with other departments such as procurement, production, and maintenance to ensure smooth project execution.
Technical Support
Provide technical guidance and support to production teams on upholstery production methods and best practices.
Health & Safety
Promote a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety regulations and company policies.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in upholstery specific engineering and production.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in the use of hand tools, woodworking equipment and shop machinery.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for design and drafting.
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Working Conditions
Environment: The role involves working in both office and manufacturing environments. Regular exposure to machinery, noise, and potential hazards in the fabrication shop.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs as needed.
