Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Veterinarian specializing in exotic animals to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of a wide range of exotic species, including reptiles, birds, mammals, amphibians, and aquatic animals. As an Exotic Animal Veterinarian, you will provide high-quality care to our diverse patients, working in a collaborative environment to ensure the well-being of these unique creatures.

Required Licenses, Registrations, & Insurance by Colorado Law:
Colorado Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) License.

Specialist Duties & Responsibilities:
Advanced training and education as described by the DABVP guidelines.
Diagnose and treat illnesses, injuries, and diseases in a variety of exotic species, including birds, reptiles, small mammals, amphibians, and aquatic animals.
Perform routine and complex surgeries on exotic animals, including spays, neuters, and more specialized procedures as required.
Administer vaccinations, perform wellness exams, and provide education to pet owners on proper care, feeding, and husbandry for exotic animals.
Respond to emergency medical situations with prompt and appropriate treatment for exotic animal species.
Interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory results to assist in diagnosing and treating illnesses. Collaborate with laboratory staff when needed.
Educate animal owners on proper care, nutrition, behavior, and environmental needs for exotic species. Offer guidance on the legal and ethical considerations of keeping exotic pets.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all animals treated, including case histories, treatments, and follow-up care instructions.
Work alongside other veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to provide the highest level of care for exotic animals.
Stay updated with the latest veterinary medical practices, particularly for exotic species, and participate in relevant professional development and continuing education opportunities.
Utilize advanced diagnostic and treatment options, including CT Scanner, C arm with fluoroscopy capability, GE Logiq E, Vivid IQ, and Hand-held VScan, and Phillips ultrasound units.
Establish a strong ZCA caseload and manage caseload appropriately.
Work with referral veterinarians to collaborate on care plans and follow-up with them regarding treatments administered.
Maintain careful medical records for all patients, treatments administered, exams, and procedures.
Ensure all treatment records are completed within 24 hours of the end of each shift.
Regularly attend and participate in hospital rounds.
Attend mandatory meetings that include, but are not limited to:
All Staff Meetings
Specialty DVM Meetings
Department Meetings
Promptly answer and return calls from referring doctors, clinics, and clients.
Consistency in leading, managing, and coaching department technicians and technician assistants.
Participate in department Team Building activities when available.
Attend and teach hospital CE opportunities for community and staff.
Includes Lunch and Learns and attending marketing events to help bring new clientele to EVS and the ZCA department.
Create and provide accurate treatment plans (estimates) to clients and adjust as needed for current patient needs maintaining within the client's financial limitations.
Ensure that the treatment of animals is done ethically, balancing medical needs with the welfare of the animal.
