The EHS Director leads the charge in creating a safer, injury-free workplace. This role is all about driving safety initiatives, training teams, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulations. You’ll identify risks, improve safety processes, investigate incidents, and work closely with leadership to build a strong safety culture. With a mix of hands-on coaching and strategic oversight, you’ll make a real impact—keeping employees safe, operations compliant, and the company on the cutting edge of EHS excellence.

  • Hires and manages the organizational safety personnel and other staff as needed.
  • Oversees the daily workflow and department schedules.
  • Coaches, guides, and mentors for the individual growth of each direct employee. Conducts timely and constructive performance evaluations. Manages employee performance and expectations according to company policy.
  • Lead company safety initiatives.
  • Develop and improve systems, procedures, and processes for an injury-free workplace.
  • Develop and drive programs to improve the quality of pre-job hazard identification/job safety analysis and mitigation.
  • Identify root causes of near misses, first-aid, injuries, and property damage to prevent future events of the same nature.
  • Work with customers to ensure best-in-class EHS performance.
  • Coach on-site personnel to improve safety practices, behaviors, and performance.
  • Guarantee proper completion of incident investigation forms, root cause analysis, and corrective actions, and ensure proper corrective actions follow-up.
  • Be a thought leader and technical advisor to the Leadership and EHS community of practice.
  • Drive compliance with all regulatory-related laws and standards.
  • Support EHS internal and external reporting, especially regarding safety initiatives. Create processes to ensure injury records are maintained and legal.
  • Responsible for the display of safety-related postings in accordance with OSHA regulations or any other governing authority.
  • Work with managers and Human Resources to establish accountability and disciplinary actions in accordance with local agreements and company policy.
  • Manage and ensure submission of all permits, required reporting, and environmental testing.
  • Maintain certifications and drive new certifications that support the strategic growth of the organization.
  • Communicates with external regulatory contacts (Federal, State, City, etc.) as necessary.
  • Educate employees and supervisors on the applicable standards for the organization, as well as being the point of contact for safety-related information.
  • Instruct all employees on pre-job hazard identification and incident investigations.
  • Develop and ensure a training matrix is in place for annual safety training along with new-hire training. Responsible for delivering and coordinating all required training for the organization (forklift training, safety, blood-borne pathogens, etc.).
  • Maintain, develop, and create all written programs; ensure they are up-to-date and applicable.
  • Participate in property insurance carriers’ inspections; ensure satisfactory communications and implement all human element programs and procedures.
  • Ensure Environmental Health and Safety inspections are completed and that issues are resolved. Coordinate environmental or other testing, if applicable.
  • Working with the Leadership team to develop and implement continuous improvement programs.


Qualifications


Education and/or Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. BS/MS in a technical field a plus but not required.
  • Experience in field employee safety at customer locations a major plus.
  • At least five years of experience as a supervisor, manager, or similar relevant position in a related field is required.
  • Knowledge of safety and health regulations and applications.
  • Proficient with third-party safety verification processes (ISNet, Avetta, Browz, etc.).
  • Knowledge and understanding of governmental compliance including OSHA regulations, environment compliance, and industry standards.
  • Experience identifying risk conditions and driving corrective action programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build capability and drive frontline performance from a central/partially remote role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to think critically and strategically.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively train, develop and mentor others.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • In-depth experience with a manufacturing environment, health and safety programs, environmental stewardship programs and EHS compliance assurance programs.

  • Will require travel to company branches and vendor sites.
