Senior Machine Learning Scientist
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Scientist to lead the development of operational and scalable ML models that drive our commercial products. This role requires expertise in machine learning, including time series analysis, raster processing, and/or computer vision, with geospatial and remote sensing experience as a strong plus.
As a senior expert, you will define best practices, drive technical innovation, and lead the development of advanced models to solve complex real-world problems. You will collaborate closely with geospatial experts, software engineers, and product teams to build, deploy, and optimize production-grade ML models that integrate data from multiple sources.
This position reports to the Chief Science Officer and offers a unique opportunity to influence both technical and strategic directions in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models for mapping ecosystem properties (e.g., land cover, carbon density, biodiversity).
- Act as a technical authority, guiding best practices in model development, evaluation, and deployment.
- Collaborate with geospatial and remote sensing experts to integrate diverse data sources into ML models.
- Partner with software engineers to optimize models for scalable, real-world deployment.
- Design robust assessment frameworks using statistical and machine learning methodologies.
- Create tools for visualizing model outputs, ensuring clarity and interpretability for key stakeholders.
- Continuously monitor, optimize, and enhance deployed models, ensuring long-term performance and reliability.
Qualifications & Experience
- PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Extensive industry experience in developing and deploying production-grade machine learning models.
- Proficiency in Python/R and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn).
- Deep knowledge of computer vision, deep learning, Bayesian methods, and time series analysis.
- Experience working with geospatial analytics and remote sensing data is a strong plus.
- Strong ability to communicate complex ML concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership in driving technical innovation and influencing cross-functional teams.
