What are the responsibilities and job description for the Boiler Operator position at Evonik Industries?
You will work in a dynamic environment performing routine maintenance and repair services on various craft systems such as electrical, carpentry, welding, plumbing, sheet metal, painting, and millwrighting. Your experience will enable you to work independently while being supported by specialists or outside contractors as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers, including monitoring performance and adjusting controls to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Performing routine inspections on boilers, including cleaning, lubricating, and troubleshooting problems to identify and resolve issues.
- Monitoring and recording boiler and water performance data, and reporting any abnormalities to supervisors or maintenance staff.
- Maintaining a clean and organized boiler room, including storing and handling fuel, chemicals, and other hazardous materials safely.
- Checking wells and testing water supply interpreting results before taking appropriate action.
- Performing manual blowdown of Boilers, Sight Glasses, and orifice taps leg lines.
- Preparing required permits for tasks that require securing outside contractor resources.
- High School Education or equivalent.
- Previous work experience in Boiler Operations, including exposure to variable sources of fuel.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting Boiler equipment with mechanical/electrical aptitude.
- Licensed Boiler Engineer (Class 1 or Class 2) certification is highly desirable.
- Adequate physical strength to perform essential job tasks, such as lifting 50 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to work outdoors with occasional exposure to weather and temperature extremes.
The compensation package offered may vary based on individual factors, but this represents a good faith estimate for the position. The starting rate is $27.44 per hour.
