The primary role of the I&E Technician is performing repair, installation, trouble shooting, calibration and some field design of electrical, electronic and pneumatic equipment. The technician utilizes a variety of test and analyzing equipment to calibrate, evaluate performance, and adjust controls for optimum plant performance.
Provide planning and onsite support to the plant, with a strong focus on critical safety systems and system reliability. Be willing to travel to other plants in the region to assist in duties of day to day and turnaround opportunities.

The primary role of the I&E Technician is performing repair, installation, trouble shooting, calibration and some field design of electrical, electronic and pneumatic equipment. The technician utilizes a variety of test and analyzing equipment to calibrate, evaluate performance, and adjust controls for optimum plant performance.

Responsibilities
- Maintain a high degree of personal safety and environmental awareness at all times.
- Troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance of pneumatic, electronic, analog, and digital process control instrumentation.
- Document repair history in the CMMS system as required by site specific procedure.
- Troubleshoot systems utilizing Schematic Wiring Diagrams (SWD) and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) as they relate to process control.
- Troubleshooting, maintenance, and minor repair of low voltage electrical systems (480VAC and below).
- Day to day Process Analytical Equipment Calibration and Maintenance, types of which may include: Conductivity, Flame Ionization, Paramagnetic, Fuel Cell.
- Perform activities related to the operation and maintenance of electrical and electronic control systems, control valves, motor control systems, low voltage electrical distribution, computer interfaces, and analytical equipment.
- Troubleshooting, Maintenance, Repair/Replacement of Automatic Control Valves.
- Personnel will support contractors on safety rules, regulations, and maintain surveillance to assure their compliance.
- Personnel will have “On Call” responsibilities periodically. They must carry a company cell phone for availability while on call and at other times.
- Personnel must have a valid state issued driver license in good standing with the issuing state. Must be able to drive company and rental vehicle from time to time.
- Adheres to and supports company safety rules and principles. Ensures all job activities are executed in a safe and efficient manner, consistent with safety expectations and a culture of prevention.
- Performs repair, installation, trouble shooting, calibration and some field design on electrical and instrument systems as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Electrical SME.
- Provides documentation of changes and modifications of the work assigned.
- Provides technical assistance to contract personnel engaged in electrical and instrumentation as requested by supervisor.
- Works with low voltage 120VAC, 24VDC, 480v Electrical Systems.
- Follows established maintenance procedures, specifications and standards in initiation, execution, and completion of assigned work orders.
- Uses calibration software and computer aided calibrators to perform instrument calibrations.
- Reads electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and ladder logic for troubleshooting and system understanding.
- Proficient in conduit and tubing installations.
- Participates in factory acceptance testing and functional testing of new installations to verify proper operation.
- Provides input for procedures for checkout and maintenance of systems located throughout the plant.
- Attends training sessions designed to improve skills and acquaint technician with new equipment, repair and troubleshooting techniques.
- communicates abnormal conditions to immediate supervisor.
- Maintains clean and orderly area and reports all safety hazards immediately to the supervisor.
- REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- NCCER Industrial Electrical and or Instrumentation certified.
- At least 5 years of experience in an operating chemical plant or refinery setting as a Maintenance I&E Technician.
- Prior experience working with DCS and SIS systems preferred.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E.
- Ability to analyze, problem solve and think strategically to solve equipment issues and determine root cause failures.
- Proficiency with a variety of I/E hand tools meters, instrument calibration equipment etc.
- Working knowledge of electricity, electrical systems, and motors.
- Can read and understand P&ID's and schematic wiring diagrams.
- Strong organization, planning, computer, written, and oral skills.
- Ability to work overtime, including being available for call out on holidays and weekends as is necessary for the continued operations of the plant per the call out list.
- Work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment.
- Work outside, year-round under various weather conditions.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Work in tight or confined spaces and able to work at heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Wear a respirator and/or fresh air mask.
- Use all types of hand tools.
