What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL A position at Ewing Moving Service & Storage, Inc.?
Class A CDL Truck Driver:
- Conducts daily pre-trip maintenance checks and vehicle inspections and reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles before and after each trip
- Will transport FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment) efficiently
- Calculates the fastest and safest route in order to deliver and/or pick up on time
- Checks the condition of the load and makes sure that it is securely fastened
- Assists in the loading and unloading of trucks
- Maintain cleanliness of all trucks and company equipment
- Must have a willingness to work the required schedule and travel based on business need
- Keeps accurate records of hours of service, etc. by using an ELD (Electronic Logging Device)
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines
- Communicates with the office and fellow colleagues regarding scheduled runs, trips and move information sheets
- Creates a good relationship with the customers, vendors and other drivers
- Is reliable and customer-oriented
- Is able to work well with others but also independently when required
- Is punctual and responsible
- Performs warehouse duties as needed and other duties as assigned
Education, Licenses & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must hold a valid CDL – Class A license endorsement
- Minimum of 2 years experience driving tractor-trailers
Other Requirements
- No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years
- No more that 2 preventative accidents in the past 3 years
- Ability to lift 50 or more pounds
- Must pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Must be insurable
- General work hours will normally be Monday – Saturday and the hours vary depending on the scheduled workload. During the peak season the employee may be required to work extended hours and some weekends during those times employment
Professionalism
Drivers are to be mannerly and courteous in all driving and non-driving situations while on the job. Good grooming and personal hygiene with clean and proper dress as instructed by the employer is expected. Calm rational behavior and attitude under stressful driving conditions are attributes of a professional, as are refraining from inappropriate or abusive language and gestures.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Ability to work in non-climate controlled environments
- Driver must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 lbs, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs
- Vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, handle, feel , and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and walk
