Position Overview:
The Bioinformatics Engineer II plays a crucial role in analyzing data from our assays and software applications. This involves designing and developing new algorithms and applications to support our platforms and products.
This role requires collaboration with Product Development teams on study design, analysis, and result interpretation, as well as gathering requirements for software modules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement bioinformatics analyses for novel assays, assay improvements, and hypothesis testing.
- Collect and document product and software requirements, and findings from executed analyses.
- Develop software modules implementing collected requirements.
- Assist with integrating software modules into pipelines.
- Manage bench-generated data and bioinformatics outputs within high-performance computing environments.
- Design and implement software modules to automate data analyses.
- Prepare and provide information and data for scientific abstracts, conferences, project meetings, and publications.
- Identify trends in study data.
- Collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Work designated schedule.
- Ability to work on a computer screen or perform typing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
- Travel between local Exact Sciences locations up to 10%.
- Travel up to 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 4 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive experience in Linux-based HPC environments and associated tools.
- Ability to write custom code in at least one programming language.
- Experience with software ticketing systems: JIRA, Smartsheet.
- Knowledge and adherence to good coding and documentation practices.
- Knowledge of molecular biology and/or biochemistry and/or next-generation sequencing (NGS) and genomics.
- Working knowledge of statistical and mathematical methods in biology/genetics/genomics, including experience with statistical software.
- Basic computer skills to include Internet navigation, email usage, and word processing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (PhD or Masters).
- 6 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in an FDA-regulated environment, ideally in medical device development.
- Experience in a biotech manufacturing environment, preferably in a GMP and/or ISO environment.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), and clinical and diagnostic test development.
- Experience with PDP (Product Development Process) and/or Cancer Genomics.
