Exalt Health, an acute rehabilitation hospital, provides an intensive rehabilitation program, and admitted patients must be able to tolerate three hours of intense rehabilitation services per day. Focused on caring for patients with complex rehabilitative needs such as stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, head trauma, medically debilitation conditions, neurological disorders, cardio-pulmonary amputations, orthopedic injuries, and multiple major traumas.
Position Summary
The Unit Secretary is responsible for providing essential clerical and administrative support to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of a designated inpatient rehabilitation unit. This role is vital in facilitating clear communication, timely record maintenance, and maintaining a welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Patient Record Management:
- Initiate new patient charts or medical records upon admission, ensuring accurate patient demographics and insurance information.
- Maintain patient charts throughout their stay, including filing reports, test results, physician orders, and other relevant documents.
- Prepare charts for discharge, ensuring completeness and compliance with hospital record-keeping standards.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the unit, answering phones promptly, directing calls, and relaying accurate messages.
- Greet and assist visitors, providing directions and general information while maintaining a professional and welcoming demeanor.
- Facilitate communication between patients, families, physicians, therapists, and other hospital departments.
- Assist with the ordering of medical supplies and equipment.
- Administrative Support:
- Transcribe physician orders as needed and follow through to ensure timely completion.
- Maintain unit logs, schedules, and other documentation as required.
- Process and distribute patient and special charges for billing purposes.
- May assist with scheduling patient appointments and therapy sessions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Licenses or Certifications
- Current BLS via the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
- Current, unencumbered certification as a Nurse Assistant in states where currently practicing.
Education, Training, and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous CNA or Patient Care Technician experience preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of clerical or administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
