Job Summary

The Financial Analyst supports the Division of Enrollment Management (EM) in financial due diligence that encompasses revenue, cost, trend, and variance analysis, management reporting, and to develop recommendations based on an understanding of UTA and higher education best practices. This role will report to the Director of Business and Administrative Support and work closely with the Unit Budget Administrator (UAB) to educate and report on all EM sources and uses of funds including funding transfers within and outside of EM, budget versus actuals variance analysis and historical trend analysis for extrapolation. The role works closely with EM and University Analytics staff members to inform and coach on Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), UTShare (UT System’s PeopleSoft), Maverick Analytics Reporting System (MARS), and Microsoft Excel skills.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Support EM in successful implementation of new UTA budget model and long-term management for informed resource optimization.
    • Assist with EM annual budget requests including the Written Report, Planning Workbook, and supporting detail cost analysis.
    • Collaborate with EM departments to ensure EPM is updated per VP approval.
    • Support fiscal yearend prep and close activities and spending restrictions including use of state funds.
    • Partner with Accounting Services to ensure accurate fiscal yearend balances are funded for next fiscal year’s carry forward funding by department.

  • Support EM to create and maintain rolling forecast and quantify hazards and opportunities using MARS and EPM Forecast applications.
    • In partnership with the EM departments, gather timely data, analyze, and report periodically on EM’s funds available by department, including salary savings, encumbrances, and sources of funds.
    • Identify and report on data collection error issues (e.g., salary encumbrances, student application fee revenue by cost center and enrollment management data point-in-time comparisons) and recommend updates to existing processes.
    • Calculate and track EM’s capacity to fund unplanned needs and mandates.

  • Independently handle technical tasks involving data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Data comes from an array of sources within and outside EM.
    • Benchmark EM’s current operations as compared to peer and aspirant R1 public institutions and communicate findings to VP and senior leadership.
    • Interpret data to assess current performance and forecast financial outcomes for departments based on VP’s goals, targets and mandates.
    • Collaborate within EM, Student Success, Student Accounts, Student Affairs, and other UTA organizations on student retention initiatives.

  • Proficiently utilize UTA applications for analytical and management reporting.
    • Participate on teams to improve reporting. Embrace and coach on AI as a tool for process improvement.
    • Utilize PeopleSoft (UTShare), Oracle EPM Planning and Forecast applications, MARS, and other tools to maintain financial reports for forecasting, variance analysis, and results-based analytics.
    • Identify and communicate when reporting systems no longer are consistent. Research and promote opportunities to incorporate AI into financial modeling and reporting.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with five (5) years of accounting or finance experience or nine (9) years of an equivalent combination of education experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in business administration, accounting, or financial management in higher education.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, UTShare, Oracle Cloud Planning and Forecast applications, or equivalent systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate skills in use of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills to influence staff, and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail and maintain confidential information.
