Job Summary
The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for content and production of recurring employee and student e-newsletters and manages the University’s Events Calendar. Contributes to the reporting, writing, and assessment of timely, engaging and effective content for faculty, staff, and student consumption via internal communications channeled by the Office of Marketing, Messaging, and Engagement.

Job Summary
The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for content and production of recurring employee and student e-newsletters and manages the University’s Events Calendar. Contributes to the reporting, writing, and assessment of timely, engaging and effective content for faculty, staff, and student consumption via internal communications channeled by the Office of Marketing, Messaging, and Engagement.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing reporting, writing, and editing of university newsletters, including MavWire (twice-weekly employee newsletter) and TrailBlazer (weekly student newsletter).
- Analyzes e-newsletters’ performance and develops reports that communicate metrics from these products.
- Works closely with the Director of Internal Communications and Strategy (Program) advising key internal business units on development and distribution of internal/campus wide messaging with internal clients such as president’s office; Academic Affairs; Government Relations; Talent, Culture, and Engagement; Facilities Management; Student Affairs; Information Technology; Compliance; Legal Affairs and others. Collaboratively develops and maintains key university email lists to ensure timely, targeted communications from MME.
- Manages and approves UTA Event Calendar entries, ensuring that student and employee events are properly entered and displayed.
- Provides key communications support for major campus events and recurring activities, including commencement, annual enrollment, compliance training, and more.
- Support emergency communications and notifications at the direction of the Chief Communications Officer or Director of Internal Communications & Strategy (Program).
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, public relations, communications, marketing, multimedia production, or related degree.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in writing content for print and electronic communications OR four (4) years of an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Experience in professional writing.
- Background in communications, journalism, public relations marketing, or other content production fields.
- Experience with writing, editing, and planning content for external and/or internal audiences such as print publications, websites, newsletters, advertising, and/or marketing materials.
- Experience with developing and managing content across multiple channels in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent oral, written and editing skills with ability to shape and improve content for multiple target audiences and repackage materials for multiple uses.
- Proficiency in use of office technology, including Microsoft Word, Adobe creative suite software, and digital marketing/communications platforms.
- Professional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of AP Style.
- Accuracy in the creation, collection, and dissemination of information and proficiency in all phases of work performed
- This position is designated as essential personnel to support the University’s emergency communications response and crisis management.
- There is a potential for significant and prolonged demands of time during times of crisis or emergency.
- May work in all weather conditions
