Job Summary

As part of the University of Texas at Arlington’s ongoing commitment to creating and maintaining a campus environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment, including all forms of sexual misconduct, harassment and violence, the University seeks an Investigator. The investigator will focus primarily on investigating Title IX related allegations in addition to other discrimination and university investigations as needed. Reporting to the Title IX Coordinator, the Investigator will play an important role in the University’s coordinated response, prevention and education initiatives pursuant to Title IX and related statutes and regulations. The investigator will conduct a prompt, thorough, fair and impartial investigation for both the complainants and respondents which includes: identifying and interviewing witnesses, gathering and securing relevant documentation and analyzing the evidence gathered.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Investigates allegations related to Title IX, EOS (and other cases as needed) involving students and employees from inception to findings. This includes:
    • creating an investigative plan, conducting and memorializing witness interviews, making credibility assessments, preparing and presenting memoranda of findings and appropriate supporting documents and communicating with the parties in a timely manner while protecting the neutrality, integrity and privacy of the investigation.
  • Provides on-going updates regarding the status of complaints and investigations to the Title IX Coordinator (or supervisor of other investigations).
  • Works closely with the Title IX Coordinator to review and synthesize allegations to determine applicable interim measures.
  • Maintains thorough, accurate, and comprehensive records related to all assigned cases.
  • Helps monitor compliance with all procedures, requirements, and time frames outlined in the University’s Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy and other relevant policies.
  • Continuously identify and integrate leading practices in the Title IX investigation arena including participation in professional development.
  • Effectively collaborates and communicates with key stakeholders and partners and contributes to an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the University by performing other duties as assigned by the Title IX Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum three (3) years investigative experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience investigating allegations of sexual misconduct and/or relationship violence and trauma informed investigations, threat and risk assessment, familiarity with Title IX, VAWA, Campus SaVe, Title VII, Clery Act and related federal and state laws.
  • Experience in presenting educational and training programs,
  • Working at or with institutions of higher education (preferably in student conduct, office of discrimination, social work, student affairs, sociology, criminal justice or law enforcement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Professional organizational, interpersonal, writing and speaking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively within a university environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, including victims of sexual assault, relationship violence, or other types of trauma, including those accused, witnesses, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently and efficiently manage a caseload in a manner that ensures the prompt, effective, fair, well balanced and equitable investigation in a time sensitive environment.
  • Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Professional skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques and interviewing.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to assess and analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges, including the ability to handle issues of complex and extreme sensitivity.
  • Computer proficiency in learning current or new software programs utilized by the University.
  • Professional work ethic, attention to detail, highly motivated, and self-directed execution of routine and special projects.
