Major Responsibilities
- Promptly, efficiently and courteously, answer phone calls, screen calls, route calls, using a multi-line phone system. Take messages from callers and pass on to physicians and other office personnel.
- Schedule, reschedule, cancel, confirm, patient appointments in accordance with established protocols.
- Obtain accurate information from patients, callers and convey information back using given protocols.
- Maintain patient details by obtaining, and updating personal and insurance information.
- Provide information to patients regarding unpaid balances, collect payments and reconcile charges daily.
- Scan, upload, file records in the appropriate sections of patient charts and keep patient charts in proper order.
- Copy patient information and forward it to the requesting party after receiving appropriate consent to release medical records.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions.
- Perform other related duties as directed or assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in a medical office setting.
- Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately.
- Skill in written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of computer programs and applications.
- Skill in operating office equipment, handling paperwork/filing adequately.
- Skill in gathering, interpreting, and reporting insurance information.
