Position Summary
Machinists are responsible for setting up and operating a variety of manual and CNC machine tools to produce precision metal parts that meet customer requirements. The machinist will utilize knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, speeds & feeds, and metallurgy to perform their tasks. Position could include CNC or controller based programming.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Keeping machines and work areas clean
- Topping off any oils & coolant tanks
- Return tooling when not in use
- Layout major boundaries for 1st piece
- Look for areas to improve setup rigidity and shorten setup times on multiple parts
- Change speeds and feeds for optimal use of tools
- Measure and inspect any and all features you have affected
- Look ahead to gather and setup tools that will be needed for the next operation
- Study drawings & programs to improve next setup efficiency
- Deburr all parts and features you machine while another part is running if possible
- Cleaning your parts and storing to prevent damage
- Maintaining material ID through our tagging system
- Returning programs & special tooling when job is finished
- Maintaining an accurate shift change log
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Formal Education and Experience Requirements
- Associates degree in a technical field preferred
- 3 plus years of relevant experience
- Highschool diploma
Skills and Abilities
- Strong Math skills
- Problem Solving skills
- Blueprint reading
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Motivated, quick start, positive attitude
- Ability to effectively communicate issues in a timely manner
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of G-Code
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
