Occupational Therapist (OT) Job Responsbilities:
- Evaluating the Patient’s level of physical functioning in the home, and for working with the Patient, Family, and/or others to provide training and/or assistive devices to eliminate or reduce areas of deficit usually associated with fine motor disorders or deficits.
- Works with other professional staff to establish rehabilitation and maintenance goals and activities.
- Provides Occupational Therapy Services for Patients, as ordered by the Patient’s Authorized Medical Practitioner, after evaluating the Patient’s sensory, motor functions, developmental delays, performance of activities of daily living (ADL), etc.
- Evaluates, instructs and monitors specific functional exercise programs to increase strength, range of motion and coordination of upper extremities.
- Makes provisions for assistive and or adaptive equipment to assist with ADL needs.
- Teaches use of assistive/adaptive equipment to Patient, Family and other appropriate health team personnel to achieve maximum independence.
- Evaluates and treats cognitive perceptual defects.
- Maintain records for each Patient treated by documenting general information, special precautions, description of and number of treatments rendered, reaction to treatment, progress or lack of progress made and Discharge Summary.
- Charts all visit contacts and findings on designated forms, within twenty-four (24) hours, and as required by agency policy.
- Communicates with the Agency Nurse at least every two (2) weeks to discuss the Patient’s progress. Telephones the Agency immediately with any information that will influence or change the provision of services including any unusual situations observed during the course of service.
- Reevaluates patients as needed to assess progress attained and completes a written progress report for the Patient’s record containing Patient’s progress, continued treatment plan, goals, frequency of visits and outcomes of care provided.
- Works with other members of the Health Team to shorten the Patient’s recovery from illness and the management of residual disability.
- Submits Discharge Summaries at the completion of services that includes outcome of care provided, equipment ordered and any recommendations for follow-up-care.
- A graduate of a program in Occupational Therapy approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association in collaboration with the American Occupational Therapy Association; or a graduate of a curriculum in Occupational Therapy, which is recognized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and is eligible for registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association.
- At least one (1) year of experience as a staff Occupational Therapist, two (2) years preferred in an Acute Care Setting.
- Home Care experience desirable.
- Demonstration of considerable knowledge of current standards, procedures and techniques of Occupational Therapy.
- Excellent assessment and technical skills, organized, and open culturally.
- License/Registration/Certification/Permit Required:
- Currently licensed as an Occupational Therapist in New York State
- Registered with the American Occupational Therapy Association
