What are the responsibilities and job description for the Varsity Cheer Head Coach position at Excelsior Charter Schools (San Bernardino County, CA)?
High School Winter Cheer Coach November - February.
JH Season 1 Cheer Coach from February - April.
JH Season 2 Cheer Coach from April - June.
High School Fall Cheer Coach from August - November.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Know and be committed to Excelsior’s Vision, Mission, and Values.
- Works with cheerleaders during all practices and events.
- Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages students to participate.
- Assesses skills and assigns team positions.
- Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Works with the ASB director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
- Coordinates with ASB director in prepping and participating in school Pep Rallies and events.
- Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the club.
- Participates in all home Football and home Basketball games.
- Participates in cheer camp over summer.
- Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
- Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
- Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student.
- Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the program.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
- Acts as a team representative and promotes the cheerleading by communicating with the clubs, and other organizations.
- Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms.
- Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
- Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep rallies.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Assist with other such duties as may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Laws, rules and regulations related to Charter Schools, including applicable sections of the State Education Code and Board policies or other applicable laws.
- Rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
ABILITY TO:
- Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of students at all times.
- Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
- Be an active listener and have positive, professional interactions at all levels and in all situations in order to maintain effective relations with students, staff, parents and community members.
- Work independently and participate as a team member in a collaborative environment.
- Maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Some experience as a competitive Cheerleader coach at the high school or college level is preferred.
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record and reliable transportation
