Excelsior Classical Academy is accepting applications for a Middle School AIG Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. All candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree in education or a mathematics-related field. All candidates for employment at Excelsior must be authorized to work in the United States and be able to clear a criminal background check. ECA does not sponsor J-1 or H-1B visas.
Job Title: AIG (Academically or Intellectually Gifted) Teacher – Grades 5–8
Position Summary:
The AIG Teacher for grades 5–8 is responsible for identifying and providing differentiated instruction and enrichment opportunities to gifted students. This position supports advanced learners through challenging curriculum, critical thinking strategies, and collaboration with classroom teachers to ensure that gifted students reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction that meets the academic and intellectual needs of students in grades 5–8.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate enrichment opportunities and advanced content across subject areas.
- Assist in the identification and screening of students for AIG services in accordance with district guidelines.
- Develop and implement Differentiated Education Plans (DEPs) for identified students and monitor progress.
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages inquiry, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
- Use instructional models such as project-based learning, Socratic seminars, and interdisciplinary units to challenge and inspire students.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and staff about student progress and program goals.
- Maintain records and participate in program evaluation, data collection, and reporting.
- Provide support and professional development for colleagues in strategies for differentiating instruction for high-achieving learners.
- Stay current with research and best practices in gifted education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- North Carolina AIG licensure (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Experience teaching upper elementary or middle grades, with an understanding of gifted learners’ needs.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction, gifted education models, and curriculum design.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
