What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant - Primary Care Clinic (FT - Days) position at Excelsior Springs City Hospital?
- Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting within role/scope of practice.
- Demonstrates professionalism by practicing, maintaining, and increasing knowledge of healthcare trends through evidenced based practice.
- Accepts accountability and uses independent clinical judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to who care delegated.
- Performs & records assessment of patients through observation, obtainment of vital signs & chart review to facilitate appropriate care with the healthcare team.
- Demonstrates ability to continually assess and anticipate changes in patient’s condition and make appropriate decisions accordingly.
- Communicates pertinent patient and unit information to provider, supervisor, department director and other appropriate persons while maintaining client confidentiality.
- Assists with minor office procedures, pap smears, dressing changes and other care as needed.
- Delivers medication injections as per policy and scope of practice.
- Maintains working knowledge of point of care testing processes and standing orders.
- Provides detailed education, discharge instructions, follow up appointments, etc.
- Assists patient care delivery to promote the continuum of care- placing orders, referrals, lab results, radiology reports, faxes, patient prescriptions, prior authorizations, medical record requests, etc.
- Documents accurately in a thorough, concise, and timely manner.
- Cleans patient rooms, equipment & instruments according to hospital policies.
- Inventories and maintains appropriate supply of drug samples and supplies.
- Assists in the development and implementation of department quality checks & improvement activities.
- Completes required annual competencies.
- Accepts assignments willingly and is flexible when changes occur.
- Provides coverage and attends training at other Primary Care locations as directed.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred
- Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Prefer previous experience in a physician office setting.
