What are the responsibilities and job description for the Microbiology Specialist - MLS (FT - Days) position at Excelsior Springs City Hospital?
- Demonstrates knowledge of Laboratory principles and theory. Follows approved Laboratory test procedures.
- Functions as the technical supervisor of the Microbiology section.
- Works independently, organizing to maximize workflow efficiency. Completes testing within the Laboratory TAT expectations. Take appropriate action when necessary.
- Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to Laboratory test procedures for specimen identification, handling, processing, and storing.
- Performs instrument start-up, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as required with proper documentation. Take appropriate corrective action.
- Performs, evaluates, and documents all required Quality Control. Take appropriate corrective action.
- Correctly performs tests, interprets results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits with proper documentation. Take appropriate corrective action.
- Assists all co-workers in all areas as needed.
- Assists in the training of new Laboratory employees.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the Microbiology section.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical or biological science.
- MLS certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist, National Credentialing Agency (NCA).
- ASCP CM and SM certifications are a plus.
- 4 years minimum experience in Clinical Microbiology, all areas.
