What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Emergency Department Representative (On-Site) position at Excelsior Springs City Hospital?
- Obtains current, complete, and accurate demographics following all EMTALA and CMS guidelines.
- Obtains insurance eligibility; identifies and attempts the collection of Emergency Room co-pays.
- Communicates with patients any/all options for payment as per ESH policy if unable to collect at time of service.
- Offers service charge information as required under transparency rules.
- Understands and abides by guidelines and regulations of the individual payers.
- Assists with patient scheduling, as necessary.
- Assists in the organizational process of incoming patient orders, verifying order is valid, adding the order information to the department tracking sheet.
- Identifies concerns and offers constructive suggestions for improvement within department with the Patient Access Manager.
- Must be able to handle difficult situations while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Completes admission notification to insurance carriers as required per facility carrier contracts.
- May assist with eligibility checks and service prior authorization.
- Expected to obtain an 85% accuracy rate within the first 90 days: to achieve and maintain a 98% accuracy rate after the first 6 months of employment.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- 1 year of experience in customer service; Emergency Department or medical office setting preferred.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Requires Attention to Detail.
- Must be able to accurately utilize keyboard/multi-line telephones while multitasking.
- Must be able to adapt to changing needs and to work in a sometimes fast paced environment.
