What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist position at Excelsior Wellness?
Excelsior Wellness Center, a subsidiary of Excelsior Wellness, is currently accepting applications for a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
Your role with us:
The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist provides recreation services to clients and students enrolled in Excelsior services. This position will work with a group of both behavioral health and education services providers to ensure client and student recreation programming is in line with treatment and/or learning goals.
How to qualify:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
- Has or can obtain a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist credential through NCTRC within 90 days of initial employment.
- Experience in planning, scheduling, and facilitating recreational and leisure activities.
- Ability to obtain Challenge Course Certification as needed to maintain and facilitate onsite courses.
- Ability to administer standardized Recreation Therapy assessments.
- Ability to work with a diverse population of staff and clients.
- Minimum one-year experience working and/or volunteering directly with youth; prior experience with at-risk population preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make ethical and safe decisions.
- Must be 21 years or older
- Able to pass criminal background check.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for employment. *New employees with out-of-state licenses must obtain a Washington State Driver’s License within 30 days of employment*
Primary duties:
- Assesses clients and student’s therapeutic recreation needs through observation, tests and collaboration with agency therapeutic recreation specialists and applicable employees.
- Creates recreation plans and programs that meet client’s needs and interests.
- Encourages clients to acquire new skills and get involved in health-promoting leisure activities.
- Provides hands-on instruction to program participants.
- Is aware of and consistent with the service components of Excelsior clients; seeks information as needed to ensure client’s service plans are adhered to.
