What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor position at Excelsior?
The Academic Advisor supports Excelsior University’s strategic plan as a direct student services position focusing on delivering academic/success coach advising to a caseload of students in one of Excelsior University’s degree program specializations. This is an Entry Level Advising position. This position involves direct student service to a caseload of students in a designated specialization area. Advisor Advisors will develop and demonstrate excellent Advising practice and develop areas of expertise in support of the Advising Center goals.
This is a full-time hybrid role with a minimum of two required days at Excelsior's home office of 7 Columbia Circle, Albany, NY, with the remainder of the days worked from home.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, including but not limited to:
- Apply the Excelsior success coaching model to students in one or more of Excelsior University’s Degree Specializations as part of an assigned caseload.
- Provide accurate Advising/coaching as it relates to student curriculum/Degree Planning and Institutional Policy and Procedure.
- Advise students in their consideration of educational goals by relating interests, skills, abilities and values to careers, the world of work, and the nature and purpose of higher education.
- Track and report on student progress across various platforms to include Student Information System (SIS), Salesforce CRM.
- Advocate for students by making referrals to Excelsior University services (e.g., career services, VA/financial aid), and other learning support services.
- Serve on unit and university wide committees and workgroups as needed
- Contribute to the successful achievement of Unit KPI’s
- Develop a Professional Development Agenda that addresses the needs of the position and of the Advising Center.

- Master’s Degree from regionally accredited institution OR
- Currently enrolled in a master’s program at a regionally accredited institution top be completed within 6 months of hire date.
- 1-3 years’ experience in education, customer service or area relevant to academic advising.
The hiring salary range for this position is $46,000.00 - $50,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting.
