Job Description:
The Precision Grind Operator/Technician operates machines and uses hand files to adapt, fine-tune, and finish high-precision products to meet productivity and quality specification standards.
Responsibilities:
Productivity:
- Accurately log production time and quantities using time keeping and labor report software (LYNQ)
- Read thoroughly all travelers (work order) to understand job material and time requirements
- Maintain production and maintenance logs accurately and in a timely manner
- Proactively manage time and tasks to ensure consistent productivity during shifts, minimizing distractions and workflow interruptions or delays to maintain smooth production operations. Monitor and optimize production processes to maximize efficiency, minimize downtime, and ensure timely completion of manufacturing goals, while maintaining a focus on continuous improvement and waste reduction.
Safety & Environmental:
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols by regularly inspecting equipment, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and actively identifying and addressing potential hazards to maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
- Adhere to all health and environmental regulations by properly handling hazardous materials, minimizing waste, and ensuring proper disposal methods, while continuously monitoring processes to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing operations.
- For machine operators: Always Safe Start machines after program, tool, or work offsets. Comply with environmental, health, safety, and other plant guidelines.
Quality:
- Perform regular inspections and quality checks on products and processes, ensuring all work meets established standards and specifications, while promptly identifying and addressing any defects or deviations to maintain the highest level of product quality.
Housekeeping/Maintaining a Clean Work Environment:
- Remove Red tags or parts laying around
- Place dirty Shop towels in the provided bins
- Place all Tooling in the proper place, put away unused tooling
- Maintain 5S practices keep work area clean and organized.
- Clean: throughout day and at end of shift Work holding (plates, jaws, vises) Inspection tools (comparator, micrometer, calipers)
Operations within Grind Cell:
- Eco/Trode: Load/unload machine Safe start machines after program, tool, or work offsets
- Run wheel dressing program as needed throughout shift to prevent part burning
- Identify and pull up programs and make modular set up changes as needed
- Perform visual inspections using loupe at 10x magnification
- Use hand files to fine tune blade registration and check cut quality
- Perform tool changes, wheel changes, and touch-offs Identify and make work offset changes Observes and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs
- Troubleshoot, locate work pieces and rotate diamond (level 3 )
- Okamoto: Load and unload part, set up fixture and touch off wheel to workpiece, perform wheel dress operations
- Manually use hydraulic table to surface grind work piece
- Pull up proper programming for automated surface grinding
- Use gauge blocks to adjust angles on sine plate fixtures
- Hone/Sharpen: Use hand files to sharpen and set blade registration on various parts
- Perform visual inspections using loupe at x10 magnification
- Test blade cut quality to specifications Install set screw to regulate part closure as needed-Debur: Use buffing wheels to break sharp edges and remove burrs
- Fine tune tool head profile shape and alignment to specifications by hand
- Polish blemishes and discolorations
Other Duties:
- Provides support and training for less experienced employees as needed.
- Participates in Inventory and cycle counts.
- Participates in 5S cleaning and organizations tasks.
- Notes and provides feedback for better more effective ways to improve the department. Participates in periodic safety training.
- Other activities as they become necessary.
Qualifications:
Education:High school diploma or GED required.
Experience, Skills, Capabilities:
- Read and write and speak English.
- This is an intermediate position at least 90 days of training is required, more training and manufacturing experience is desirable.
- Proven success in arriving at work on time and a proven record of good attendance.
- Capable of seeing and identifying alignment of part blades, extremely high level of visual acuity.
- Ability to accurately count out products and pull them into bins in preparation as you complete each work order.
- Must work quickly but accurately.
- Must be able to focus and complete repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to work independently with minimum oversight.
Position Details:
- Full-time non-exempt position, onsite
- Day shift
- Salary Range: $21-26 per hour.
